#1I'LL Have Another, Bodemeister, and Union RagsAll 3 horses have now been retired from racing. Bodemeister was retired yesterday with a shoulder injury. It seems like a lot of the best horses leave the game prematurely with injuries or because they are sent to the breeding shed. Overall, it's hurting the game imo.

#2The whole idea is a double-edged sword. I think they coddle the horses too much and should let the better ones still race rather than just cash in right away. But then you would have those that say it is cruel to run the horses if they are not fully healed.
Overall it is annoying because it's been a steady trend for the past decade or so.Comment -

#5Bodemeister needed 60 days of recovery. Tells you all you need to know about the owner.
On the positive side is the Animal Kingdom camp. This KY Derby winner has been nursed back from two injuries, and is expected to race again in November. Good to see people with their heart in the right place.Comment -

#9Hurts the breed as well. Horse with short careers sire horses who break down easily. Each generation of horses gets softer and softer. Thats why you will never see another triple crown winner.Comment -

#11News got worse for Paynter, as now he has been diagnosed to have rapidly progressing Laminitis. Hopefully, he can survive.Comment -

#12I doubt he will. It's been one thing after another. This painful process sounds like western medicine in action. A realm of side effects in spite of good intentions. Before you know it the side effect of a drug or treatment is the new problem. How is this weakened horse going to deal with all that?Comment -

#13Once a horse starts to have this type of problem, the other problems rear their ugly head. Although predictable that the future problems might occur, there is nothing anyone can do to prevent them from taking shape. All anyone can do is expect the worst and hope for the best while treating the colitis as aggressively as possible.
Simply put, foundering is caused by an extreme shock to the horses system. A rapidly spiking temperature way up and then after being treated a rapid downward spike that repeats itself can certainly trigger the foundering along with a host of other bodily functions that drastically dart around in extreme directions.
If they can keep the foundering from escalating, which brings along with it the high dose of pain, and it seems as though for now they have, he has a decent chance. If it becomes aggressive again, they are quickly running out of options. We all hope this can be brought under control. If not, it won't be for a lack of trying.Comment
