I want to know what eveyone has learned from toga the last 2 days and from del mar the last few days. then we should discuss this at end of first week for both to see what we all come up with. Del Mar you need to be off the pace. chantal is hot now think she might have it out for smitty and has teamed up with belvoir(Shipper) for 2 wins. when I have more tiime on dark day will look at opening week for both tracks.

The pick 3s are paying off for both tracks, even without bombs.

Del Mar: Emerald Down shipper is really live

Saratoga: Outer turf you want to be on the front, inner seems to be playing a little bit fairer. Solis and Castellano (esp on turf) are overlooked by betting public.

The first toga race we tackled really looks like a mess, was wondering if you guys could share why you picked what you picked.

I was stuck between the 7,11, and 13, and ended up going with the new face in the #7, the tease of a morningline at 12-1 for Pletcher and Johnny V sure didn't hurt as well.

i was there yesterday and they are doing all they can to wet the track. i noticed that who ever has the lead coming into the final turn is dead in the water with an off the pace horse. i think in the first 2 days may 3 races were gate to wire and thats odd for toga. maybe its been the heat and they just run out of gas or maybe this is how the track is gonna set up this year? good luck today!

I have emailed and called del mar for the track maintenance schedule with no luck. What do they do between each race, and is it the same everyday?

on the dirt?.... ive seen plenty of gate to wires on the grass. matt carothers must be killing it so far.

Good Luck All!!... The cross country mileage was gonna kill me, so I dropped Carly Simon off at Kennedy to catch a flight to London for the Amy Winehouse funeral and I split for New Orleans and a off track parlor that put me about halfway between Saratoga and Del Mar. Seemed Best I think!!

I have noticed as well that many races have gone gate to wire on the turf. And having just watched race 1 here at Toga, I think you are completely correct with that it is the heat. The closers were having problems doing just that, closing. But in the first race many horses over took the would-be gate to wire horse Sarah's pleasure. I've noticed that heat can affect paces of races before, but not really in this way. I'd be careful of the gate to wire horses today, I think they will be in trouble.

Edit: Just to make it clear, its much cooler at Toga today which is why I am saying this. Of course, its hard to say based on one race, and a horse (Sarah's pleasure) who faded in the race before this one. Just saying, tread lightly.

Castellano is tearing it up today with 3 in a row.I don't think I have ever seen Ramon doing this bad .He was 0 for 15 with two 2nds so far at the spa.
