    horse share ownership help
ok, i have finally made the decesion to buy some shares. I am pretty new to this and I know some posts have already covered it but i will ask. I have a pretty good amount saved for this investment somewhere between 15 and 20 k to play with this. I have done some research and see most shares are avaliable in 5 and 10 percent chunks. Does anyone know some stables that race here where I live at Calder or Gulfstream that sell shares. I have found some stables out west, but really want to go watch the horse live when he races. Also any advice in this? This is money that i have saved gambling and my gambling money so i am going do something else with it and try to start this. I wish i had my own barn and i would just claim horses, but am going start this way. I know i wont get rich and maybe i will get lucky to break even, but i think it will be fun. Hopefully someone knows somethign about this or some good websites for stables here.
    thanks guys

Avoiding bad or dishonest people will be your biggest challenge.I trained in Md. for 25+ years.A trainer you can trust is huge. A partner, if only one or two, you can trust is just as important. There are plenty of really honest people out there, but just like anything else ,there will be plenty of not so good people also.
I am sure you have in your mind a couple of trainers that you think highly of.Go to the track and simply watch them.Yes, almost stalk them. See what they watch or don't watch. See how receptive they are to people ,especially there other owners.See who goes to the bar or not. That may or may not be receptive to you.
I would spend a month or so doing that before you do anything.
Make sure that the trainer is concerned about winning first.By that I mean that smaller trainers can sometimes have to way winning with losing a horse through the claim box.I am not saying that if your horse is doing well, you might not want to protect it, but,in cases of smaller trainers, losing a horse means losing an income until that horse can be replaced. It is not much money but empty stalls can be snatched away by management and the trainer is screwed.I think past performance of a trainers methodology will give you a lot of perspective.
I could type all day but start with creating a short list of trainers by going and simply observing.
Hope that helps. If you would like to PM me down the road ,feel free.I will try to help all I can.
Lastly, if you want to own a very small piece of a six figure syndicate, I know plenty of people I can put you in touch with .
    Best of luck.

I'm not in USA so I can't advice anything but I wish best for you and your horses! Racing sector is very hard. It includes lots of different good emotion (sometimes bad). and this expericences and emotions should be your profit. don't care about money and you try to enjoy.
your red sentence should be your motto. Good luck!

what ownership partnership did you join? Fantasy Lane Stables races during the Tampa meet, but they are pretty expensive since Uptowncharlybrown got into their barn

wtt -- I would also check out some harness racing partnerships. You can get a partnership on a $20K to $40K horse for 5K or 10K, and the great thing about a harness horse is that they race every week, and for nearly as much as thoroughbreds. Also, in the winter, your horse may race at Pompano......

                wtt,
                mtneer1212 had some good advice.
and remember: "they pay the top 5 finishers"....*as cecil mumbles under his breath about his horse coming in 4th last night missing show by a nose.
i will say this, you've never routed for a horse so much in all your life until "yours" is on the track
best of luck and keep us updated!

since i have 10 k mountneer to spend i might look at spending the other 5 k in what you are talking about. i will send you a pm
i decided to go with hisbiscus stables out of cal and new york. they were super when talking to them. they have a colt with storm cat and roman ruler roots. hes a two year old and looks good for me to start with. I really am not in it at a profit at this point but cant wait to go and do the whole winners circle thing. He is trained by linda rice who is a good trainer. I was going go with their philly who is trained by john sadler but went the other way. i would be interested in the harness also to spread my investment some.

Been involved with DeeTee and West Point. Dee Tee runs cheaper animals, but is a good group of honest guys. West Point tries for the stakes animals and runs a good operation. I have a friend who was involved with Macho Again when he ran 2nd in the Preakness and won the Steven Foster...that's your best shot at glory.

Keep in mind that it is very difficult to make any money with any of these. The claiming game has almost no shot at a return on investment because the overhead costs will eat you up considering the purse sizes.

it's a shame that there is so much dishonesty everywhere, in just about everything. i hope your adventure profits you in many ways.

ok, i would invest in harness....
b.c of slot machines the payouts are much more...the big races go for even just as much...

breeeding in thoughbred is the real $ but u have 0 chance at that....

my dad used to syndicate and was in with a partner who was ripping people off, my dad ended up pulling thousands out of his pocket so the investerors never knew.....

we know the owners of buck eye st pat. ginger and fred, and are good friends of the people who owend mack lobell.

                                these have all made millions.

granted you will most likely not get a horse of this calaber, BUT it is VERY FUN in the winners circle and such.

with that being said look foward to your results.

we may be buying another claimer thru some amish sometime in the comming years.

we got involved b.c they were going to throw some amish out of the church for racing some good ones so we took part years ago.

one of our horses raced in the open at dover....and that was a bunch of fun....we told our investors after the race this may be the the horses last winners circle appearance....it went lame shortly after. it was its last race, let alone win.
he was racing against riyadh back then , we lost bad.

about dishonesty...we had a vet say he could bring him back for 15k with no guarnetees, after my dad talked to him he got the vet to say there is basicly no chance the horse will race the same way.

                                best advice to anyone....

the best way to make a small fortune in the horse business, is to start with a large one.

another funny story....we got offered 100k for a horse called goney's girl, and the trainer who was in debt to us about 30k at the time and owned half the horse woudlnt let us sell her. and was racing her with boned tendons. we lost out on the money she went lame shortly after.

GOOD LUCK man its a long and fun adventure.

                                we owned some such as
                                goney's girl
                                waltins in town
                                prefferin
                                and like 10 others haha
