    Bet on Horse Racing
A small but exciting field lines up for Saturday’s Lone Star Derby. The advantage of making a horse racing bet in the sportsbook is locking into horse odds that could change on the day of the race.

Getting advantageous odds on a horse is the way to win at this game. Locking in odds on the pony that horseplayers believe will win the Lone Star Derby is the way to go if those horseplayers are thinking of betting the race.

Lone Star Park: Lone Star Derby

** Horse betting odds listed current in the sportsbook as of this writing

    1. Wando Redd +1200 - - He’s coming off of a maiden victory at Evangeline Downs and now will not only be stretching out from 5 ½ furlongs but also trying to win a graded race. He’s also changing trainers, but he does get Chris Landeros, who knows the Lone Star Park racing strip as well as any jockey in the nation, and this field isn’t full of world-beaters…uh…what am I writing? This guy should have no shot in this race. A maiden victory at Evangeline to a graded stakes? Really? Please!

    2. Gilded Woodman +3500 - - He lost his first lifetime race, a 7 ½ furlong maiden on the turf, by 19 ¼ lengths. He does get Lasix but his trainer is winning at 6% for the year and this guy’s sire bills only $2,500 for a conjugal visit. It’s ridiculous that he’s even in this race.

    3. Thatlleaveamark +2500 - - He runs on the front end but has been doing so against state-bred $15,000 maiden claimers and $20,000 state-bred claimers non-winners of 2 lifetime. He, Gilded Woodman and Wando Redd should get together and have their own race near the grassy knoll in downtown Dallas. I mean, are you serious? The one good thing about this guy is if the real speed drums each other into submission during the race, he could, possibly, with a lot of luck, sneak into either the trifecta.

    4. Game On Dude +150 - - Figures to be in a match race with Henshin Hero for most of this. He’s a tricky read because based on what I see on paper, he’s the winner. After all, he has run two turns in 3 out of his 4 lifetime races, is going second time for trainer Bob Baffert, should be able to run about 2 lengths off of Henshin Hero and was sired by Awesome Again. The problem is what does jockey Martin Garcia do? Does he challenge Henshin Hero early? That would really compromise this guy’s chances, right? Then again, he might be so much better than the rest of this field that +150 is a gift.

    5. Henshin Hero +160 - - I really like this guy’s chances in this race. He will get the lead and has proven capable of running a 44 half-mile and still going. The biggest issue is whether or not he wants to go this far. The other big issue is whether or not he gets pressure from Game On Dude. Then there’s that whole issue of this being the first time he’s ever had to run in a two turn race…okay, maybe I’m not in love with him.

    6. Crider +200 - - On paper, this Steve Asmussen trainee just doesn’t seem good enough. He was out finished as the chalk in a $50,000 optional claimer going 1 1/16th miles and faces two better horses in Henshin Hero and Game On Dude in this than he faced in that race. He did finish 5th to Coneveyance and Conveyance is a nice horse, but Game On Dude might be just as good or better than Conveyance. He should be the logical contender to lie behind a speed duel between Henshin Hero and Game On Dude, but that speed duel may never develop because Henshin Hero might not have the gas to go 1 1/16th miles. I believe second is the best he does on Saturday.

    1. Game On Dude +150
    2. Crider +200
    3. Thatlleaveamark +2500
