    Louisiana Derby 3/27/10
Does anyone have an opinion on the LD this weekend? Ron the Greek seems to be a solid horse despite a poor showing in the Risen Star.

    1. Hotep (Patrick Husbands, Mark Frostad, Sam-Son Farms, 122, 30-1)

    2. Mission Impazible (Rajiv Maragh, Todd Pletcher, Twin Creeks Racing Stable, 122, 8-1)

    3. Fly Down (Jose Lezcano, Nick Zito, Richard C. Pell, 122, 8-1)

    4. The Program (Corey Nakatani, Bob Baffert, Thoroughbred Legends Racing Stable, 122, 10-1)

    5. A Little Warm (David Cohen, Tony Dutrow, Edward P. Evans, 122, 4-1)

    6. Ron the Greek (James Graham, Tom Amoss, Jack T. Hammer, 122, 6-1)

    7. Discreetly Mine (Javier Castellano, Todd Pletcher, E. Paul Robsham Stables, 122 , 7-2)

    8. Island Soul (Robby Albarado, Steve Asmussen, Stonestreet Stables, 122, 20-1)

    9. Stay Put (Jamie Theriot, Steve Margolis, Richard, Bertram & Elaine Klein, 122 , 10-1)

    10. Wow Wow Wow (John Jacinto, D. Wayne Lukas, Marylou Whitney Stables, 122, 30-1)

    11. Mister Marti Gras (Shaun Bridgmohan, Neil Pessin, Lothenbach Stables, 122, 30-1)
    12. Backtrack (Shane Sellers , Gary Scherer, Al & Bill Ulwelling, 122, 30-1)

    13. Drosselmeyer (Kent Desormeaux, Bill Mott, WinStar Farm, 122, 5-1)

    Any insight would be appreciated.

#13 Dosselmeyer looks like an interesting prospect despite his outside draw. At 5-1 he is definitely worth a bet ontop and the Bill Mott/Kent D combo hits at a nice 27 percent.

Another interesting entry here is the California shipper, The Program. I watched his last race and once he got to the lead, it seemed like he didnt know what to do. Expect a deep close by him cause he just walked by the leader in that race.

Dont think Discreetly Mine will get an easy lead in this one like he did in the Risen Star, so definitely stay away from the favorite here.

Also wanted to add that Hotep is definitely a play in the exotics and Place and Show at ML of 30-1. He is a full brother to Queen Plate Winner Eye of the Leopard. the Queen Plate is sorta the Canadian Triple Crown so he defintely should be able to handle the distance

Fair Grounds Race 10 Louisiana Derby G2 (Post time 4:48 CT)

            #13 Drosselmeyer 5/1
            #4 The Program 10/1
            #5 A Little Warm 4/1
            #2 Mission Impazable 8/1

#13 Drosselmeyer has been highly regarded ever since breaking his maiden last fall at Churchill Downs, and needs a big effort here today to get into the Derby field. The colt was the beaten favorite in the Risen Star behind a loose on the lead Discreetly Mine. The colt tracked the early pace along the backstretch ands came up the inside with a run but flattened out to finish 1 ¾ lengths behind the winner but just a neck and a head out of the runner up spot. The colt looks like he should move forward off that effort and there is enough of a run to the first turn that the outside draw may not hurt him. The $600K has the pedigree to be a nice one, by Distorted Humor out of the stakes winner Golden Ballet ($732K), who has dropped two other winners including stakes winner Stage Luck ($155K).

#4 The Program ships in form the left coast and makes his conventional dirt debut here. Baffert has already won three stakes this spring at Oaklawn park with SoCal shippers making their dirt debuts. The colt exits the Sham (G3) where the colt stalked the early pace, had the lead heading for home, but weakened to finish third. Four back in the CashCall Futurity (G1) he was only beaten 1 ½ lengths by Lookin At Lucky. His pedigree suggests he may end up being better on the real stuff, by Harlan’s Holiday out of a Deputy Minister mare.

#5 A Little Warm made a good late rally while four wide to finish in the runner up spot last out in the Hutcheson (G2). The winner of the race was D’Funnybone, who came back to win the Swale (G2) in his next outing on March 20. The question is whether this guy can handle nine furlongs and this is a tough surface to stretch out on for the first time. The Tony D. barn is 27% winners moving runners form sprint to route. His mare Minidar was a stakes winner sprinting, but has dropped a couple of route winners.
