I was on the losing end, but a great stretch duel. Street Sense looked good and might be the real deal. I still question only 1 more prep before the Derby will not have him sharp enough.

    SS,

It was a pretty exciting race. A great dual as you said.

I suspect that we'll be seeing both of these horses in the field the first Saturday in May. I remember thinking at the 1/2 mile pole, "when the heck is he going to bring him?"...Man, that 3/4 pole charge was impressive by Street Sense. What was even more impressive is that Any Given Saturday is just as good. To run stride for stride with a horse in a dead sprint like Street Sense tells me Any Given Saturday is at least of equal quality if not better.

Yes, especially after SS opened up 3/4 of a length after cutting the corner. For AGS to come back and lose by a nose was impressive. Street Sense's running style is made for Chuchill Downs. He's a closer but not a deep closer. He should be mid-pack in the Derby which will cut down on possible trouble.

Again, I don't like his schedule, but the trainer certainly knows what he's doing.

Any Given Saturday was my play of the week and I bet $300.00 to win on him.I feel he was the better horse on the day but lost due to a better ride by Calvin Borrel.I like the fact he battled back after falling a half length down in the lane. The time of the race was very good, both figure to be players the first saturday in May.
I was able to recover with a pick three at Santa Anita that ended with Colbalt Blue's victory in the San Felipe..Merv Griffin can afford to give his horses the best of care.Colbalt Blue has talent but the derby may be rushing things.Time will tell

Wow. I won't complain about a tough beat after hearing your story. I only had a fraction of your amount on AGS. I agree Vealasquez messed up a little. He went very wide and kept looking back for Street Sense on the turn instead of sending his horse before SS made his move. Sometimes the jockeys overthink these races. Just go already and stop trying for the perfect ride.
