    Handicapping Question
If you find something to be profitable when handicapping, at what point do you guys pull the trigger and actually start wagering?
Do you handicap a certain amount of races or does it depend solely upon the R.O.I. before it is deemed viable and worthy of an investment?
Just curious as to everyone's handicapping and wagering rules..

for me that's too mechanical..there's a lot of little x factors I look for (different things for different types of races) to come to a decision..also kind of a soft feel how it all comes together if that makes any sense lol..closest thing I can relate to what you said is types of races that I like..for me condition claimers,maidens,3yo only races are my favorites

      Makes total sense JBEX..
It seems I change my way of looking at the PP's almost monthly..
Can't settle on one specific way to look at the horse...
Possible that I'm making a tough sport more complicated..
      Thank you

Anything I post I’m actually wagering on

        just different amounts at times

I look for sequences as a multi race player (for the most part)

        along with win bets

you have to take what they are giving you

        as every field is different

        be selective

        don’t chase

        youll get discouraged quickly

take shots when you can with carryovers

        look for bad favorites

try to increase the odds on true favorites

        by singling or keying

        cant be mechanical

Some 3/5 shots might be great value

Have a plan , handicapp the night before

          adjust the changes

Make notes if the rail is good or bad that day

put yourself in the mindset of the connections

I did learn a long time ago not to be greedy..
Take what they are giving you..
I am selective but when the horse runs out I obsess over what I may have missed..
Problem is is that I am somewhat mechanical as I write specific rules or things to look out for when throwing out a horse and won't stray until it falls apart which it almost inevitably does..
I've tried to subset between distance, class, sex, track even field size..
Never been a good or quick judge of track bias..
I've tried and it just won't register with me..
Only time I have come close to it is years ago (late 80's- early 90's) when handicapping Oaklawn..
Speed ruled the day back then..
I always handicap the night before as trying to do it at the track or OTB the day of is fruitless..
Think I may just need to get back to the basics..
            Thank you Lkid

think it's more of a feel thing rather than a sample of races that shows a positive roi..let's say you like maiden claiming races and you accumulate a sample of 150 races with a positive roi.. to me it's much more important that you feel you have an edge than what happened over that small sample...the more you study and play the more confident you will become in your abilites

                  I feel ya..
The more confident I am in the way I look at the race(s) the easier it will seem and the less I will second guess..
I'm not afraid to throw a race out because I'm not feeling it..
                  Always evolving...

I used to try and beat every beat every pick 4/5

                    Pick winners first

and be content if your wrong ( I’ll still learning )

I do believe it’s a sport that you have to pounce when you can

but that’s wagering , first gotta trust your handicapping

you have no idea how many years I lost a huge a pick 5 by nose

                    and chased playing every track

                    just stick to the plan

                    live to fight another day

                    your ROI will increase tremendously

i started a tracking a thread with certain rules

                    follow that

                    tomorrow is a perfect example

                    we all want action, right?

Although I may try the late race sequence at gulf

I handicapped Tampa and even quit on that

if you can’t see it , just pass

I chose not write on it , because I know guys here that follow

                    could get hurt

not gonna be like a guy who writes on every small opinion

                    ask away handicapping wise

Horsemen wise , go to str thread
