Among the 11 older dirt runners signed up on the Risen Star undercard is a pair of Kentucky Derby veterans, Hofburg and Cutting Humor. Hofburg, who was seventh in the Derby and third in the Belmont Stakes in 2018, will be making his first start since winning at Saratoga last July for trainer Bill Mott. Cutting Humor, who was placed tenth in last year’s Derby, returned to be third in a Gulfstream allowance on Jan. 11 for Todd Pletcher.
The favorite is Silver Dust, who returned from a nearly four-month layoff to win the Louisiana Stakes (G3) at Fair Grounds with ease on Jan. 18 for Bret Calhoun.
