Kent Desormeaux entered his 34th year of race riding last month with more than 6,000 career victories. Now he's looking to add to the total in northern California.
The Hall of Fame jockey has moved his tack to Golden Gate Fields, riding two races on Jan. 26, the track's most-recent race day after last week's cards were axed due to a lack of hot water on site.
Agent J.R. Pegram is representing Desormeaux, who indicated he'd like to remain at the Bayside track for an extended period of time.
“A couple of leading trainers [at Golden Gate] said they would ride me if I came here,” said Desormeuax, who got started aboard a pair of claimers for the Bob Hess Jr. barn. “I’m giving it a shot. I’m all in.”
A native of Louisiana, Desormeuax is the second most-winning Cajun jockey behind only the great Eddie Delahoussaye, a fellow Hall of Famer. Desormeaux has guided 6,031 winners and needs 354 more to pass Delahoussaye on the all-time list.
