Most Host's win in the 68 Charles H. Stub was the first race that comes to mind. The heavy favorite Damascus was down on the heavier rail footing and this 13-1 grey longshot ran him down from the outside part of the track. I was just a kid but still managed to have two dollars to place on the grey. Paid like 6 bucks to place.
In more recent times Smarty Jones's Derby win comes to mind. I was very happy that night at work as I had touted him to many co workers because of his liking for an off track.Comment -
Recent one is probably Mine that Bird, but going back, Go For Gin winning the Derby came to mind. Think it was a sloppy track, not sure.Comment -
The track was sloppy for Rachel in the Oaks the day before Mine That Bird if that helps. Crazy rail bias on Friday , even more so than Derby day if I recall.
Didn't Uncle Mo win off prepping for the Classic last year in the slop also? That was at Belmont on a Saturday so maybe other nice races that day as well.Comment
