Weekes gets call tonight
Backup Kevin Weekes will make his first start in four weeks tonight in Washington against the Capitals as the Devils play their second game in as many nights and third in four days. Weekes has not started since backstopping the Devils to a 3-2 victory on Nov. 12 in Pittsburgh.
"Weeksie has repsonded well every time," Devils coach Brent Sutter said. "He's been good when he's come in and played. His practice habits have been very good. He treats practices like games."
Weekes knew he was going to have to be patient between starts when he signed with the Devils this summer. And, with the team on a nine-game winning streak prior to Sunday's overtime loss to the Rangers and Martin Brodeur playing so well, he wasn't surprised Sutter stayed with the hot hand.
