Flyers forward will miss 6 weeks
What is it with these players getting there wrists broke right before the season starts. I really think the NHL needs to cut the number of preseason games they play a year, because of the injury factor.

Upshall could miss up to six weeks with wrist injury

PHILADELPHIA -- Flyers forward Scottie Upshall could miss up to six weeks with a broken wrist and forward R.J. Umberger also needs surgery on his hand and could miss two weeks.

Upshall and Umberger were both hurt in Philadelphia's 4-2 loss against Ottawa on Monday night and the Flyers said both players were scheduled for surgery Tuesday.

The Flyers also said Tuesday that defenseman Randy Jones is out through the weekend with a right hip flexor injury and right wing Joffrey Lupul needs his injured left wrist examined.

Upshall was acquired from Nashville at last year's trade deadline in the Peter Forsberg deal and finished with eight goals and 16 points last season.

Umberger broke the pinky finger on his left hand.

Most preseason games are a lot more competitive than previous years that's for sure. Players are playing extra hard for open roster spots so my guess is that is why we are seeing more injuries.

Maybe a solution would be that for any injuries during preseason (slashes, elbows, high sticks, trippings (slew foots) etc.) will result in heavy fines and or suspensions for any player in any league they play in be it the NHL, AHL, Junior etc.

For the reg season the NHL just simply needs to crack down on the head shots from elbows, chargings and high sticks. You can't penalize a player for a shoulder hit becuase those hits are simply part of the game and are clean hits.
