Dallas Stars @ Calgary Flames
The current regulation time puckline on this contest is Dallas –0.5 +146 (Pinnacle). Dallas is coming off of a brutal 2-1 loss at Vancouver last night as the Canucks scored a power play goal with less than one minute left in regulation time following a questionable penalty call.
That was just the second road loss all year for the Stars however, who are still a scintillating 11-3 overall, so we are looking for a strong bounce-back effort tonight. It is hard to lose if the other team does not score, and Dallas is currently allowing the fewest goals in the NHL this season at just 1.86 goals per game overall. Moreover, this figure drops to a miniscule 1.63 goals on the road! Finally the Stars have dominated the head-to-head series with the Flames, going 7-1 in the last eight meetings.
Calgary is a disappointing 4-9 thus far after several prognosticators picked them to win the Stanley Cup this season on the strength of a suffocating defense. However goalie Mikka Kiprusoff has been off his game so far with an uncharacteristically low .910 save percentage, and thus the Flames are allowing 2.92 goals per game. Sure many teams would take that, but the Flames set the bar high for themselves when they led the NHL in defense last season. Given that both Marty Turco and rookie Mike Smith have sparkled in goal for Dallas, we look for the Stars to put just enough pucks by Kiprusoff here to escape with another road win.
Recommendation: Dallas –0.5 +146 (Regulation)
