The New Jersey Devils host the Buffalo Sabres tonight. New Jersey is coming a 6-1 blowout win over Atlanta. Tougher test tonight against a more powerful Sabres team.
Devils dealing with some concerns with their defense going into this week. It's been well publicized that Martin Brodeur is out of tonight's game but Devils dealing with bigger concerns as far as I'm concerned. Top defenseman Paul Martin is not going to play tonight. Also out is defenseman Andy Greene. Devils defensive corps will be... Johnny Oduya paired with Bryce Salvador, Colin White with Mike Mottau and Sheldon Brookbank with Anssi Salmela. This corps is definitely not at the same level of the Devils regular corps.
Kevin Weekes is ok as a backup but with a full squad in front of him. He will be tested tonight with the Devils current defense. New Jersey also have some holes up front due to injuries. We will see if Weekes show some rust with only 33 minutes played since pre-season games.
Buffalo have welcomed top center Tim Connoly in their last game. Coach Lindy Ruff was not happy after two lack luster efforts and shuffled his lines in last game and it worked well. Sabres took a 5-0 decision against Washington. I expect the Sabres to send their 3 top lines to attack the Devils defense tonight and exposed it. Sabres should be able to use their speed.
