I'm looking for help finding 1st half team stats in all basketball sports. I don't know if anyone knows of a site that keeps them, but I can't find them anywhere. Every box score has just final game totals, not the 1st and 2nd half stats separated.
I imagine I can gather the data manually through the play by plays, but that's not going to be efficient enough time wise unless someone has the ability to write a script. I can't do that.
I'm open to suggestions if anyone can think of some. I want to use this information to back test all basketball leagues. Here's what I'm doing with the info now in the WNBA.
I now have something set up to play the second halves automatically if they meet a certain criteria based on current game pace vs projected game pace, game score, and line value as to what the line "should" be in the second half based on original total. I'm still going to play any of them small even if they fit.
Basically each WNBA 1st half line is 49% of the total (very close to that). For example game total is 150, 1st half will be around 73.5. Second half should be 76.5. What I'm finding is value based on those original starting numbers.
Ideally if the game is not a blowout, either way, and the pace is either slightly faster or slower in the first half, I've set something up to find "value" in the second half line.
Here's an example of a game that "fit" the other day. Chicago and Tulsa closed at 147. Using my 49% number, the first half total should have been 72, second half 75. Second half moved to 75.5 and I had the pace/possessions slightly lower or slower than predicted based on 1st half stats. Fit the profile for an under play in the second half as the game margin fit in to my +/- for score, the pace was just a bit slower, and the original 2nd half total of 75 pre game was exceeded.
Alot of factors, but something to seriously look at going forward.
