Well, I think a lot of these guys "scrape" their own stats off the internet. There is a sticky thread at the top of this forum called "introduction to research" the goes on at some length about scraping or trying to scrape your own stats.
You could also buy stats from some places, and you can buy "web scraper" programs (don't know how good they are, or which ones are good). just do an internet search for "web scraper" or "web scraping."
