I don't know what it is about Thursday day baseball, but it doesn't adhere to any angle that's positive for me. What is it??? I understand it's a get-a-way day, but Sundays are also a get-a-way day and they aren't effected the same way Thursday games are.

I went back three years, weeded out Thursday day games and dramatically improved my record on something I regularly do.

Anyone agree or am I talking out of my ass again?

I've thought about looking at a days-of-the-week angle before because of stuff like this (always seem to win on certain days, lose on others) but in the end chalked it up to coincidence.

I'd be very interested to see if there is a statistical difference. Maybe attitudes of players/weather or just coincidence?

I have never thought about throwing a day of the week out. But I do NOT think you a crazy for doing it. I have thrown out individual statistics and team stats in blow out games, bad weather games, ect.

Why would Thursday getaway days be any different than Wednesday ones?

For a while, Saturday games in the NFL had a very poor HFA, enough where even non-db guys would notice it. I tried to understand why but couldn't get anything plausible (days of rest, differing training patterns, etc). Then it went away. When you are filtering thru a lot of games make sure you understand that occasionally you will "find trends" that just happen. With more games in MLB, you will find more stat flukes.

it is just superstition on your part, Thursday is a normal day like any other.

The OP is talking specifically about Thursday afternoon "getaway day" games. But that would beg the same question: Why should results be any different than Wednesday, Sunday and the occasional Monday wraparound getaway day games?

How is your data represented? If you are using a MySQL Database I might be able to help you figure this out.

I have a table called "DIM_Time" which a bunch of general date information including weekday for every day from '04-'11. So if you are using mysql, its a simple join on the date to map a given gam's date to its corresponding day of the week. And you can do your [further] analysis from there

Let me know if you want the script/table export and I will try to attach it here.
