The joy of the game has been ruined for people like us by gambling. If you don't believe it, take 6 months off and see how many games you actually tune into. It won't be with the same passion or consistency at all.

Sometimes in life though you will be faced with an ultimatum, that might be from a spouse/gf, it might be a wake up call from someone else. Then maybe it would be considered more like a drug. Like it's either me or this. And I know that's happened to some people on here, probably even ones that make money doing this. It's not a healthy lifestyle at the end of the day.

If there are no acknowledged mental side effects, we will just keep doing it. The reason we stop drugs is because they hurt us physically and mentally. Gambling doesn't hurt us physically. You get the rush and just have to deal with the mental when you lose. If I could smoke cigarrettes and drink a 5th of liquor everyday for the rest of my life with no negative consequences, you don't think I would?
Some of this is true. I am going to basically take several months off this summer to focus on different things. Too much money to be made next few months to do it now.

if all you're booking is pregame and parlay cards, especially those dumbass parlay cards where ties lose and it's over 48 under 47 (lol) then of course nobody wins in the long run, just like scratch off lottery tickets

many many many people have explained pretty clearly how to win over the long run

Don't bother. I could screenshot my Fanduel account summary and they'd still find some way to not believe it.

I was about to talk about how this thread is a disaster with all the posts up in here but you tried to bring it back.

I'm going to guess you don't bet for the rush, you seem more disciplined. But that doesn't discount the push to gather the cash, and when sports aren't getting you where you want seek the liquidity of other markets.

If you haven't start learning trading now, especially things like swing trading. If that's not for you, then maybe it isn't about any type of push or rush at all, maybe it was just your interest in the sports markets combined with money.

I've been up and down all of those roads over the years, traveling many simultaneously.

But once we're talking about betting for the rush, it simply isn't the audience I'm talking to, so much of the time. It's a desire to bet for other reasons, even if just to prove you can be disciplined that leads to respecting the game.

Once we're talking about feeling down because we've lost a bet, even if it's $10, again it simply isn't the audience I'm talking to, so much of the time.

There are discussions for those things, but I feel very few regulars at SBR would be any other than offended. There has to be a will and desire to change. I could go into behavioral modification and psychology, I'm practically an expert in the field as it relates to gambling, but again, very few seek that type of discipline here.

But heading that direction is what I meant by disaster, in my eyes. It's not meant to offend anyone, it's just a different level of education that few really want.

As far as this entire thread, it really doesn't matter how much time you put into it, it's the quality of time that matters. As you work with little time but with high quality, you will see that your time becomes more valuable.

That leads to growth of everything, from your own psychology and discipline in order to protect what you've earned to your bankroll.

I don't doubt for a second that you win d2bets. I'm not saying winners don't exist. I'm saying most of us lose and that's ok.

If I could dedicate hours upon hours to looking at stats, line movement, judge public perception etc. , I could find a winner or two, too. But frankly, I don't have that time, so, I'll bet small and I'll bet for fun knowing that Ill sure as shit lose. It makes actually winning that more special. Is that square? Should i stop betting 50 bucks on the bounce of a ball and buy diapers for my newborn, instead? Of course. But I don't have grand illusions of being a winning sports bettor. That's all I'm saying bro.

    My pet peeve:

*All these radio/TV shows that try pawn themselves as Expert Picks.

WAY too late to the party. The Stu Feiner Sports Advisors show is almost 30 years old. Proline/SportsDesk from the same era.

Stu Feiner created an industry out of thin air. If you are square enough to pay for picks, it's now his $$.

What is the product you're purchasing? Doesn't matter, the $$ is now his.

The modern Expert Pick shows are terrible. Not even funny. And I'd never put any stock in a broad telling me who to pick on tonite's card.

I NEVER pay attention to any of that stuff. Look at all the boards figure out the 6-8 Games that have some value and move on and then knock off ones that aren't fitting the bill as the games approach.

I know MOST of the names you mention:

    1) Lee Pete was one of the early hosts. I know he was respected.
    2) I've spoken about Dave Cokin several times. I know people will label him as a "con"...but I don't see it like that. He turned his "hobby" into a career. He's knowledgeable and sharp. He used to be on the forums, I've had a few discussions with him.
    3) I used to play poker with Jackie Gaughan at the El Cortez. He was getting older, but he still liked to play cards. Obviously, he had some cash.

Don't think I know Badder and Baker.

You're correct that you do need to dedicate significant time to win. You can't slack your way into winning. To some extent, you have to be consumed by it.

If it was not for Sports Betting there would be no reason for me to watch Sports anymore. Even if i dont bet i still follow all the lines, I have been betting on Sports for 40 years. Living in La was great in early 80s being so close to Vegas. When i was 19 i would sit in the Stardust sportsbook and my cousin who was over 21 would bet for me.Security guards did not care back then as long as i just sat in the desk i was fine. One guard ask me for id and ask to me leave one time when i was watching Stardust line.Lee Pete went up to the guy and said he is ok he s just watching the show and let me stay.

Its addicting as hell and the odd fluctuations in short amounts of time are crazy. You can always find value whether its a dog that ahead or a chalk thats behind..I seem to have success on tennis +$ bets more than any other sport..I like betting dogs and first set over totals...also theres always a match going on no matter what time of day.

The odds fluctuations drive me insane. You should move to Vegas and really barrel in. Slots, poker, blackjack, sports, download the apps, etc… let’s roll.
