Books price period lines with underdogs having higher win% in first period compared to second. But I have NHL database going back to 2005 and shows that underdogs win more in the second period compared to first period? Could this be correct?

Well, go ahead and exploit the inefficiency. I don't do 1P in NHL but in Euro hockey I sometimes take a big dog in 1P because big favs don't take them seriously at the start of the match.
