What is the difference between Home runs and Home runs allowed? How is the formula for home run allowed?

I need this for the "Defensive Effeciency Ratio" (DER formula)

1-((Hits Allowed - Home Runs Allowed)/(At Bats - Strikeouts - Home Runs))

No difference; both are home runs allowed by the defense.
