i am just curious about what line do you use for backtesting

i am not sure which line i should take!

Most people use closers because they're more readily available.

Using both would be a good idea.

If you're testing how much you would have theoretically beat the market by, look at the openers and Pinny's no-vig closers.

Use both. Your plays should see agreement in the line moves at last 60% of the time or so. If you're 50/50, you'll lose.

I always test against closers, i.e. the best possible line and the hardest to beat.
If you can beat that consistently, you have a good model.
Openers? how early? They are scattered all over the place according to the book, and w injuries. Nothing nearly as consistent as closers. Consistency is important in testing.

it is a marginal amount of additional work to test both, and you may learn something from it along the way.
