    Justin7,

I saw you post one time that heavy money coming in on a team ~10 min before kick was not to be respected. I think you attributed it to the "Taiwanese" recreational players moving the line, specifically at pinnacle.

My question to you pertains to the past couple days and the nba playoffs. Everyone knows these lines are efficient, they sit there for a long time throughout the day barely being touched (specifically talking about the Cavs/Lakers games these past two days). But then 10 mins before tip these lines make pretty big moves - IE 5-10 cent moves on ~25K limits. Obviously both these line moves won the past two days, magic and nugs.

SO what's the deal? Is this some asian dude donking 100s of dimes onto his favorite American bbal team? Is this sharps waiting to pouce on the non-public teams? Waht's your take J7?

It's just so odd that these lines sit there for so long and don't get tapped, and tapped BIG, until just prior to tip.

Basically what I want to know is....is this your std Taiwanese Steam?

    thx,
    JohnnyC.

In a previous post somewhere, Justin7 [who has some inside knowledge of certain bookmakers as he has worked with them] suggested that the sharpest lines at Pinnacle are not the closing line, but the line 10-15 mins before the close.

The reason for this, he suggested, was that there were recreational/square bettors from Asia who wagered large amounts during the 5-10 mins prior to game time, subsequently moving the lines.

I noticed this today as well on the Magic ML. I bought the Magic ML about half an hour before game time at +111 (5Dimes), and it closed at +102.

I feel like the line movement in today's game was highly suspect. The books released Magic -1 / PK (depending on the book) knowing full well that the Cavs would be the popular pick (and they were 70% on the ML and spread). This was a day that the books took a lot of money from the gambling public, while a few bettors swooped in at the last minute to get the best possible lines on the Magic, taking some of it back.

I know a lot of games get designated a "trap" whenever there's something fishy going on in line movement, etc, but IMO, today's Cavs line was a trap by the books, and very well executed.

I've been out of the "insider circle" for quite some time. I don't know who causes the late moves anymore, but I still don't think it is sharp, especially the Pinnacle closers.

If it's not sharp why does it not get knocked back down? not enough time? whales? I'm very curious on why you think these asians are square. So far I've seen no basis behind your thinking on this. thanks.
