Depends what you are modeling for.

It is a good idea to have a big schlong if you want to be an underwear model.

programming has nothing to do with modeling. It's all about how clothes fit.

you'll learn about statistical models while going through R tutorials and books. R is a statistical programming language.

While programming will surely help modeling. Modeling itself probably requires less programming but could prove to be to time consuming inputting your database manually oppose to having a computer program that does this for you. Though you should be able to find previous posts on the subject Conquering Risk I hear is a good book though admittedly I haven't read it yet.

That is of course if your not talking about the type of modeling Kermit & nakedput are talking about, and if you are I think your at the wrong site for that kind of advice. Good luck
