NFL Player News - Week 1

CHI - PK Robbie Gould to be released Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

The Chicago Bears have informed PK Robbie Gould that he is going to be released, a league source said Sunday, Sept. 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Chicago did not have another kicker on the roster so they'll be trying out players Monday.

MIN - QB Shaun Hill expected to start Week 1

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Matt Vensel

Minnesota Vikings QB Shaun Hill likely will be the starting quarterback Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans since QB Sam Bradford will only start practicing with the Vikings this week. Bradford may be ready to take over the starting job in Week 2.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's not entirely shocking given the fact that Bradford was just picked up. They'll try to shorten his learning curve as much as possible so Bradford can start in Week 2.

BAL - RB Justin Forsett to be brought back?

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Updating a previous report, the Baltimore Ravens could re-sign newly released RB Justin Forsett later this week, according to ESPN's Jamison Hensley.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That seems to be the prevailing thought with beat reporters around Baltimore. Forsett was the only RB who would not be subject to waivers if cut, and that may have prompted the team to make the move. Buck Allen, Terrance West, and Kenneth Dixon will compete to establish a pecking order with or without Forsett. Dixon is likely to miss a month with a knee injury he suffered in August.

NO - TE Coby Fleener struggling with playbook

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Triplett

New Orleans TE Coby Fleener reportedly admitted recently he is still adjusting to his new playbook, according to ESPN's Mike Triplett.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sean Payton has said that Fleener was a 'work in progress' during camp. On paper, he looks like a great fit for the Saints offense. The reality is that he may not hit his stride as a fantasy asset until he's more well versed in the offense. We believe he's a TE1, but he may perform like a low-end one while he gets up to speed.

HOU - DE J.J. Watt expected to play Week 1

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (back) is expected to play Week 1, according to a source. Watt underwent back surgery less than two months ago.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This was the plan all along. Watt should be back, but his role may be slightly limited to begin the season. We expect him to be limited in practice leading up to the Texans game against the Bears.

MIN - Former OC confident in QB Sam Bradford

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Matt Vensel

Minnesota Vikings tight ends coach Pat Shurmur told the Vikings that he believes QB Sam Bradford will be able to learn offensive coordinator Norv Turner's scheme quickly. Shurmur was Bradford's offensive coordinator with the Philadelphia Eagles last season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bradford is not an exciting option as a starter, but the Vikings were clearly desperate at the position when QB Teddy Bridgewater was lost for the season. We're expecting Bradford to be a game-manager for the Vikings, and his fantasy value will be limited by that role.

NE - WR Chris Hogan's role still 'evolving' Source: WEEI.com

New England Patriots WR Chris Hogan believes his role within the offense will be determined 'week-to-week' and that 'it's still evolving'.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hogan is an interesting player to monitor with the Patriots. He can line up in any personnel grouping, but his production with QB Jimmy Garoppolo could have quite a bit of variation. When Tom Brady returns from his four-game suspension, we'll feel better about Hogan's potential in PPR leagues.

ARI - QB Aaron Murray to Arizona practice squad

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Free-agent QB Aaron Murray (Chiefs) will sign with the Arizona Cardinals to be part of their practice squad, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's an interesting fit for the Cardinals system. Murray is an accurate passer on short and underneath routes, but the Arizona system is all about going vertical -- not a strength of Murray's game. We'll see if he can make a better impression than he did with the Chiefs.

NE - New England adds RB Bishop Sankey to PS

    Source: ESPN - Adam Caplan

Free-agent RB Bishop Sankey (Titans) will sign with the New England Patriots to be part of their practice squad, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Patriots have done this before with higher draft picks. They added Montee Ball last year (a second-round pick in 2013) after the Broncos cut him. Like Ball, we're not expecting Sankey to last long with the Patriots.

TEN - TE Jace Amaro claimed by Tennessee

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

New York Jets TE Jace Amaro was claimed off waivers by the Tennessee Titans Sunday, Sept. 4, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's an interesting landing spot for the athletic tight end. Amaro could play as a move TE behind Delanie Walker. Like Walker, Amaro could line up outside the hashmark as a receiver. In order to stick in the NFL, Amaro will have to show the ability to stay healthy and improve his concentration as a pass-catcher.

MIA - Miami claims WR Justin Hunter

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Tennessee Titans WR Justin Hunter was claimed off waivers by the Miami Dolphins Sunday, Sept. 4, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Any receiver under the coaching of Adam Gase is an interesting player to watch in super deep dynasty leagues. Hunter has always had tremendous natural talent, but his production has never matched his physical gifts. We'll see if Gase can unlock the potential that Hunter has always had.

DAL - Update on DE Randy Gregory's appeal

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys DE Randy Gregory's appeal of his 10-game suspension is still pending. His original four-game suspension was announced Saturday, Sept. 3.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The whole situation is unclear, but we don't think Gregory will be able to play in the first month of the season. One thing is clear though; the Cowboys are in desperate need of help on the defensive line.

BAL - Baltimore adds WR Devin Hester

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Free-agent WR Devin Hester (Falcons) agreed to a one-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens Sunday, Sept. 4, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hester will work as a return man (where he can still be dangerous) but he won't do much as a receiver.

    Tuesday Update

BAL - RB Justin Forsett re-ups with Ravens Source: CBSSports.com - Jason La Canfora

Free-agent RB Justin Forsett (Ravens) has agreed to re-sign with the Baltimore Ravens Monday, Sept. 5. Terms weren't disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

How Forsett fits into the RB corps remains to be seen. Many feel this was the Raven's plan all along and this was just a cost cutting move. Forsett could still play a major (main?) role in this backfield. Things will get especially complicated when rookie Kenneth Dixon returns from his knee injury in a month or so.

GB - No limits for WR Jordy Nelson

    Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (knee) will not have any restrictions during the team's Week 1 game, according to head coach Mike McCarthy.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great news for the Packers here and for Nelson's fantasy owners. Go ahead and start him as a low-end WR1 in Week 1, and so long as he stays healthy Nelson should keep up those levels.

MIA - WR DeVante Parker may miss Week 1

    Source: NFL.com

Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (hamstring) is at risk of being sidelined for Week 1 with hamstring issues, according to head coach Adam Gase.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Parker has the speed to get on top of a defense, but this hamstring injury isn't the only thing to be concerned with. Gase called out Parker publicly and seems to be in the coach's doghouse. Kenny Stills could get more time/targets with Parker banged up. Keep Stills in mind when considering 'what the heck' flex players.

MIN - Two Minnesota QBs with first-team reps

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Matt Vensel

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings QBs Sam Bradford and Shaun Hill will both receive first-team repetitions in practice this week. Head coach Mike Zimmer has not officially named a starter for Week 1 yet.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team made a big move to add Bradford, but they won't start him if he's not ready. We're monitoring this for Week 1, but we're still cautious on what to expect from the Vikings passing game early on if/when Bradford is at the helm.

PHI - QB Carson Wentz to start opener

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (ribs) is healthy and will start Week 1, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wentz must have checked out medically for him to get the starting nod. The rookie gets to start from day one instead of the team going with career backup Chase Daniel. It's not a surprise considering Daniel's skill set and Wentz's pro-ready ability.

WAS - RB Matt Jones should play

    Source: NFL.com

Updating a previous report, Washington Redskins RB Matt Jones (shoulder) is expected to play Monday, Sept. 12, against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He returned to practice Monday, Sept. 5.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones has missed a lot of time in the preseason because of this shoulder injury. He'll start against the Steelers but UDFA Rob Kelley is going to play a part as well. The split of touches at RB will depend on how much the team thinks Jones can take at this point.

CAR - WR Kelvin Benjamin will have snap count

    Source: Panthers.com - Max Henson

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee) will play about 35 snaps in Week 1 against the Denver Broncos, according to head coach Ron Rivera, but he could see more.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Having Benjamin back will be a boost for the Panthers offense. They didn't have him in the Super Bowl, and the receivers for Carolina were blanket covered by the Broncos. If they get close to pay-dirt, Benjamin should get targeted due to his size/strength combination.

MIA - RB Arian Foster officially starting

    Source: Sun-Sentinel - Omar Kelly

Miami Dolphins RB Arian Foster has officially been listed as Miami's starting running back.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Foster could post RB2 numbers in the Adam Gase offense. Jay Ajayi and rookie Kenyan Drake will serve as his backups. If Foster needs a breather to stay fresh, the team could insert one of those younger backs for a few plays.

CIN - TE Tyler Eifert will not practice this week

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Jim Owczarski

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (ankle) will not practice at all prior to his team's Week 1 game against the New York Jets, according to head coach Marvin Lewis.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With Tyler Kroft (knee) also banged up, the Bengals are hurting at the TE position. C.J. Uzomah started the third preseason game and could be in the top spot for Week 1.

SEA - TE Jimmy Graham still uncertain for Week 1

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks TE Jimmy Graham (knee) is recovering well, but he remains uncertain for Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners are targeting Graham as a 'lottery ticket' TE2. That's about right for where his value is currently sitting. He's got nice upside if things go right for him.

DAL - QB Tony Romo will have more tests

    Source: DallasCowboys.com - Rob Phillips

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) will undergo more tests on his injured back this week. 'We'll get some more information here over the next 48 hours and make a determination as to what his status will be going forward,' head coach Jason Garrett said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Romo is currently on the Cowboys' 53-man roster as Dallas expects him to return at some point this season. While he's out, rookie Dak Prescott is going to start for the team.

DET - TE Eric Ebron practices

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron (ankle) returned to practice Monday, Sept. 5.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ebron is back in practice, and it looks like he's on track to play in Week 1 against the Colts. However, even if he plays we're not going to consider him more than a low-end TE2 for fantasy owners.

DAL - RB Darren McFadden's arm an issue

Source: The Dallas Morning News - Brandon George

Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden (arm) said he can't straighten his right arm all the way yet, and he may not be able to fully straighten it again.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McFadden is already shelved for the first six weeks of the year. This injury may extend the time that McFadden is out.

KC - OLB Tamba Hali will be limited

    Source: KCChiefs.com - Pete Sweeney

Kansas City Chiefs LB Tamba Hali (knee) won't have a full load and will be rotated in Week 1 against the San Diego Chargers, according to head coach Andy Reid.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
This is what was expected. Hali will be worked along slowly as he returns to full strength. The team needs to be careful with him as they're already without Justin Houston until at least Week 8.

MIA - Limited practice for WR Kenny Stills

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins WR Kenny Stills (back) put in a limited practice Monday, Sept. 5.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stills has 'what the heck' flex appeal this year provided that he's healthy. We'll be looking for an update later in the week.

IND - TE Dwayne Allen cleared to practice

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Wells

Indianapolis Colts TE Dwayne Allen (hip) was back at practice Monday, Sept. 5, after missing a few practices last week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Colts are getting Allen ready for Week 1 against the Lions. He should be a low-end TE1 for fantasy owners.

DEN - TE Jeff Heuerman likely for opener

    Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis

Denver Broncos TE Jeff Heuerman (hamstring) is likely to play in the season opener Thursday, Sept. 8, despite missing practice Sunday, Sept. 4, with a strained hamstring.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Heuerman may be likely for the opener, but we're not expecting much from him. He missed all of last year (his rookie season) with a knee injury, and he's been banged up this year in training camp/preseason with a bothersome hamstring injury. Virgil Green will be the team's pass-catching TE in 2016.

WAS - WR Josh Doctson running routes

    Source: CSNWashington.com - JP Finlay

Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson (Achilles') was in pads and running routes Sunday, Sept. 4, and head coach Jay Gruden said he could be ready for Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We like Doctson's natural ability, but we are going to temper our expectations for him early in the season. It's great that he's back to running routes, but the rookie from TCU should be eased into the lineup as a fourth receiver. That doesn't equal a ton of fantasy points. Watch his progress as the season continues, because Doctson has the potential to rise quickly up the depth chart.

DAL - QB Tony Romo to stay on active roster

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) will remain on the active roster in the hope he can return sooner rather than later from the compression fracture in his back.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This means Romo may be back before Week 9 -- if he's ready. That's something we'll all be watching as the season rolls on. In the meantime, exciting rookie Dak Prescott will take the field as the team's starter.

    Wednesday Update

SEA - RB Christine Michael ahead of RB Thomas Rawls

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks RB Christine Michael is listed ahead of RB Thomas Rawls on the Seahawks first unofficial depth chart.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rawls isn't ready to start as he's still coming back from an ankle injury. Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll believes that Rawls will be ready to start in a couple of weeks. During that time, Michael is going to have a chance to shine in the starting role. Rawls will work in as a part-time player behind Michael to begin the season.

DAL - RB Ezekiel Elliott won't be charged

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott will not face criminal charges due to conflicting statements in regards to an alleged domestic assault against his ex-girlfriend in July.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Even though he was not charged, the NFL can still suspend him. However, with no charges filed the chances of the rookie getting popped by the league is slim.

CAR - Decreased role for WR Kelvin Benjamin?

Source: The Associated Press - Steve Reed

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin may not receive as many snaps as he did in his rookie season, according to head coach Ron Rivera. Rivera wants to spread the playing time around more.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Benjamin isn't quite back at full strength, and he'll be limited because of it. That makes him a risky fantasy start in Week 1. He already has a tough matchup against a world-class Broncos defense. Find other flex options if you can.

TB - RB Jacquizz Rodgers visits Bucs

Source: Tampa Bay Times - Greg Auman

Free-agent RB Jacquizz Rodgers (Bears) visited the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tuesday, Sept. 6. He left without signing.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rodgers may be able to latch on as a part-time back with some team. He may have to wait until after the first week of the regular season before he gets any offers.

NO - WR Rueben Randle works out for Saints

Source: FOX 8 NOLA -- Sean Fazende

Free-agent WR Rueben Randle (Eagles) worked out for the New Orleans Saints Tuesday, Sept. 6, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Saints are likely just updating their emergency list here. Randle was inconsistent with the Giants, and he wasn't able to make the Eagles roster even though he just signed early this year.

TB - WR Cecil Shorts joining Tampa Bay

    Source: ESPN - Adam Caplan

Free-agent WR Cecil Shorts (Texans) agreed to terms with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tuesday, Sept. 6, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The move makes a ton of sense for both sides. Shorts couldn't make the Texans roster, but he's a good fit for the WR-needy Bucs. The veteran WR played under Bucs head coach Dirk Koetter during rookie season with the Jaguars.

LA - QB Jared Goff won't be active for Week 1

    Source: NFL.com - Conor Orr

Los Angeles Rams rookie QB Jared Goff will be a healthy scratch for Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

QB Sean Mannion will back up QB Case Keenum, while P Johnny Hekker will serve as the emergency backup. Goff has some learning to do, but it's okay to let him sit and wait for his chance to start. The rookie is the future of the franchise, but starting him when he's not ready could damage his long-term outlook.

PIT - WR Markus Wheaton day-to-day

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Markus Wheaton (shoulder) is considered day-to-day.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With Wheaton banged up, the Steelers will watch him during the week of practice before making a decision on his availability for the Week 1 matchup against Washington.

MIA - WR DeVante Parker misses practice Tuesday

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (hamstring) did not participate in practice Tuesday, Sept. 6.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's looking more and more like Parker is not going to be available for Week 1. Nothing's official, but Parker could be held out if he needs more time to recover. In the meantime, Kenny Stills could continue to surge in the Dolphins offense. We like Stills as a good 'what the heck' flex option against the Seahawks.

NE - WR Danny Amendola optimistic about Week 1

Source: The Boston Globe - Ben Volin

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (knee, ankle) expressed confidence to reporters Tuesday, Sept. 6, he would be 'ready to roll' against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It will be a boost for the Patriots offense to have Amendola available against the Cardinals, but we don't see much here from a fantasy angle.

MIN - WR Laquon Treadwell still second-teamer

    Source: ESPN.com - Ben Goessling

Minnesota Vikings WR Laquon Treadwell was listed as a backup to WR Charles Johnson on the team's most recent depth chart released on Tuesday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We love the rookie's natural ability to make difficult catches, and we believe in his future potential. However, the kid still has a lot to prove in order to move up the depth chart. Plus, the loss of Teddy Bridgewater -- even with Sam Bradford now added -- doesn't make us real excited about the Vikings passing game.

NE - CB Eric Rowe dealt to New England

Source: The Philadelphia Inquirer - Jeff McLane

Philadelphia Eagles CB Eric Rowe was traded to the New England Patriots in exchange for OG Josh Kline and a conditional fourth-round pick in 2018 on Tuesday, Sept. 6, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A fine move for the Patriots here. Rowe was a second-round pick last year for the Eagles, but he didn't fit the scheme of DC Jim Schwartz. Rowe is physical at the line of scrimmage and he can turn to cover with speedy receivers down the field.

HOU - DE J.J. Watt may be limited

    Source: ESPN - Ed Werder

Updating previous reports, Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt's (back) number of snaps and role in Week 1 has yet to be determined.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This has to be expected with what he's coming back from. Watt should be on some sort of snap count. He is definitely expected to play in Week 1, according to two team sources.

SEA - TE Jimmy Graham still iffy

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks TE Jimmy Graham (knee) will be pushed in practice this week as if he's going to play in Week 1, but the team isn't sure if he'll play until after he practices this week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Even if he does play, we're not expecting much from Graham. He'll be limited if he's on the field, and Graham didn't look like a good fit in the Seahawks offense last year when he was healthy.

TEN - WR Kendall Wright resumes running

Source: The Tennessean - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans WR Kendall Wright (hamstring) has resumed running, head coach Mike Mularkey said Monday, Sept. 5.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Just because he's back to running doesn't mean Wright is going to play in Week 1.

WAS - WR Josh Doctson uncertain for Week 1

Source: The Washington Post - Liz Clarke

Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson (Achilles') was able to practice in full Monday, Sept. 5, but he remains uncertain for the Week 1 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. 'I'm not going to step foot on Monday night or put the uniform on and run out there and get myself embarrassed,' Doctson said. 'I'm just - if somebody gets tired, I'm, gonna go in there and help out.'

Doctson has the ability to get open on a lot of different routes. The rookie should be eased back in after dealing with this Achilles' injury for all of camp and the preseason. He's fourth on the depth chart behind DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garcon and Jamison Crowder -- and that's when he's available to play.

Amazing JJ Watt would be playing so soon after back surgery.

    Thursday Update

KC - Jamal Charles will practice Source: Chiefs.com
Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) will practice Wednesday, Sept. 7, according to head coach Andy Reid.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Reid is still making it sound like Charles won't play Sunday vs. San Diego, but this should underscore that Charles isn't on the PUP or otherwise is badly damaged goods right now. If you can get him in the fourth round of late drafts, it could be an outstanding move.

SEA - TE Jimmy Graham practices in full
    Source: Seahawks.com
Seattle Seahawks TE Jimmy Graham (knee) went through a full practice session Wednesday, Sept. 7.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Graham should play Sunday, but his snap count and targets are still unknown. If the Seahawks focus on getting Graham on the field in red zone situations, he could still be a solid streaming TE start this week.

ATL - WR Julio Jones limited
    Source: AtlantaFalcons.com
Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (ankle) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 7.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Jones is almost certain to play vs. Tampa on Sunday. It's hard to imagine benching him even if he's not a full participant in practice this week.

CAR - WR Kelvin Benjamin to see 30-35 snaps
Source: The Associated Press - Steve Reed
Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin could be reduced to 30 to 35 snaps per game this season, according to head coach Ron Rivera. Benjamin averaged 57.8 snaps per game during his rookie season before he missed last year with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Rivera said Benjamin's injury and the development of other players in the passing game are contributing factors to reducing his playing time. Benjamin is still rounding into football shape and Rivera doesn't want to push him too hard.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Benjamin already had a tough matchup against the Denver corners. He should be on your bench this week.

BUF - RB LeSean McCoy likely to be busy
Source: Rochester Democrat and Chronicle - Sal Maiorana
Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy could receive 20 to 25 touches in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens, in the opinion of beat writer Sal Maiorana. Maiorana said McCoy was never fully healthy last season, and he is such this year.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
McCoy is going to be one of the most heavily-worked backs in the league in the Bills quality running game. He might wear down as the season goes on, but in the meantime he's a strong RB2 at worst.

IND - QB Andrew Luck limited Wednesday
    Source: NFL
Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (shoulder) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 7.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Luck is still a top five start in a game that should ask him to pass a lot to keep with the Lions against the weak Colts defense.

DET - TE Eric Ebron practices in full
    Source: NFL
Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron (ankle) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 7.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Ebron did not practice in the preseason, but it sounds like he is good to go in a great matchup against the Colts defense. Consider him a low-end TE1 with a high ceiling, albeit with some risk of rusty play coming of off a long layoff.

DET - WR Golden Tate limited
    Source: NFL
Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate (ankle) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 7.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
There is no indication that Tate is in danger of missing the game at Indianapolis, but we'll be watching the practice reports later this week hoping for a full practice by Friday. The matchup is so good that it will be hard to bench Tate in flex or three wide receiver leagues as long as he is active.

HOU - WR Will Fuller listed as limited
    Source: NFL
Houston Texans WR Will Fuller (hamstring) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 7.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
There are no signs that Fuller is in danger of missing Sunday's game, but we'd like to see him get a full practice in to feel good about slating him as a top sleeper play against the weak Bears secondary this weekend.

NE - TE Rob Gronkowski limited Wednesday

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (hamstring) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 7.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Gronkowski's injury appears to minor. Any time he's on the field, he is an auto-start at tight end.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (elbow) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 7.

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Kroft (knee) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 7.

DEN - WR Emmanuel Sanders receives new deal
Source: NFL Network - James Palmer
Denver Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders agreed to a three-year contract extension with the Broncos Wednesday, Sept. 7, worth $33 million, according to a source.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Sanders made a lot more on his second deal in Denver even though he turns 30 next year. His fantasy value should rise as the Broncos quarterback situation hopefully gets better while Sanders is playing out this extension.

NYJ - WR Brandon Marshall limited Wednesday

New York Jets WR Brandon Marshall (hip) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 7.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Marshall should be fine for Week 1 against the Bengals, although this is something to watch as he has had hip issues earlier in his career. Marshall is a borderline WR1 coming off of a top five season.

MIA - WR DeVante Parker sits out
Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero
Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 7.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Parker has already had issues with both hamstrings this year and the season hasn't started. He's unlikely to go in Seattle on Sunday. He's droppable in the first waiver wire run after this week's games if there's something compelling out there.

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Chris Ivory (calf) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Pitta could get a lot of targets if he can play vs Buffalo. He, Williams, and Crockett Gillmore should divvy up the tight end targets freed up when Ben Watson went down for the season.

NO - QB Drew Brees receives extension
    Source: ESPN - Ed Werder
New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees has agreed to a new five-year contract extension with the Saints Wednesday, Sept. 7, but the contract will automatically void after two seasons. Brees will receive $44.25 million guaranteed over the next two seasons.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Brees will be a Saint for at least next year, which is great for the fantasy value of every player on the New Orleans roster. He has a chance to be a top three quarterback this year even though he often went outside of the top five in drafts.

WAS - WR Josh Doctson limited in practice
    Source: Redskins.com
Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson (Achilles') did individual work at practice Wednesday, Sept. 7, as he is still being brought along slowly, according to head coach Jay Gruden.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Doctson probably won't play this week, and he might not have a big role in the first few weeks of the season. He could still hit big if he gets healthy and a starting wide receiver for Washington goes down, so keep him on the waiver wire speed dial list if he went undrafted.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

    Friday Update

NE - TE Rob Gronkowski not 100% Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (hamstring) enters the season less than 100% with a hamstring injury that has limited him since Aug. 15.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Also, water is wet, the sky is blue and the zombie genre is getting a little tired now. Much like Gronkowski being hurt to start a season, these are all things that should shock nobody when they hear them. Gronkowski is almost always nicked. We assume the coaching staff will roll him out there anyway because 1) he's never 100% so this is just the reality of Gronkowski and 2) Jimmy Garoppolo needs as much help as he can get against a tough Arizona defense.

DAL - RB Ezekiel Elliott is 100 percent

    Source: DallasCowboys.com - Rob Phillips

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott (hamstring) is 100 percent recovered from a sore hamstring suffered early in training camp. He was able to play one of the four preseason games and said Wednesday, Sept. 7, that his conditioning is 'top notch.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is great news against a shaky Giants run defense, behind a fantastic offensive line. Expect Elliott owners to yell "And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay 90 yards and a touchdown upon thee" and refer to Sam Jackson and Pulp Fiction a lot. Start Elliott in all formats if you happen to be one of those people.

IND - Indy trying to keep QB Andrew Luck fresh

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Wells

Updating a previous report, Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (shoulder) was listed as a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Sept. 7. However, a source said Luck being listed as limited is nothing more than making sure he is fresh and ready for the Week 1 game against the Detroit Lions.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We are all a bit skittish about Luck and his injuries and given last season, who could blame us? That said, we think he'll be fine and he should be a solid QB1 against a poor Lions secondary this week.

SEA - TE Jimmy Graham looks good for Week 1

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Updating a previous report, Seattle Seahawks TE Jimmy Graham (knee) practiced in full Wednesday, Sept. 7, and head coach Pete Carroll reiterated things are looking good for Graham to play in the Week 1 game against the Miami Dolphins. 'His chances are the same. They're good,' Carroll said. 'Just more of the same. The comfort to go full out with everything we're doing. Responding from those days and feeling good about it. Us feeling good about him feeling good about it as well.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Graham should play Sunday, but we don't know how much they'll use him, much less how. Last season Graham was used inconsistently and far too often as a blocker. We need to see what Pete Carroll and company have in mind and how healthy Graham is before we start him in regular leagues. He's a flier in daily fantasy, with upside because he could be a nice red zone target.

ATL - No limitations for WR Julio Jones

    Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure
Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (ankle) will be a full participant during practice Thursday, Sept. 8, according to head coach Dan Quinn.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We expect a great day by Jones, so start him as a WR1 without worry. The game is a divisional one and so should be close and hard-fought. So expect Jones to step it up a notch.

SEA - RB Marshawn Lynch considering return?

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Mike Florio

Retired RB Marshawn Lynch is 'up in the air' about a possible return, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. If Lynch does return, the same source said Week 4 or Week 5 are the likeliest return dates.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll believe it when we see it. Of course, what will his role be and where will he play? Will Seattle keep him or move on anyway? All important questions we can't answer until he decides what he is doing. If you have the roster space, it might be worth the gamble as we know Lynch is still a beast.

DAL - QB Dak Prescott praised by rival

Source: Fort Worth Star-Telegram - Charean Williams
Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott has a 'bright future' ahead of him, according to New York Giants QB Eli Manning, and Manning said Prescott threw the well during his time at the Manning Passing Academy.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We like what we've seen from him as well, though it hasn't been in full-on NFL action. We think the Cowboys will KISS it this week with the game plan and keep it simple, stupid for Prescott's first real NFL action. We wouldn't start him this week as more than a QB3, as Ezekiel Elliott and Alfred Morris will probably get a ton of work behind that offensive line. The Cowboys want to ease Prescott into the role as much as they can.

DET - Full practice for WR Golden Tate

    Source: DetroitLions.com - Tim Twentyman

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate (ankle) participated fully in practice Thursday, Sept. 8.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tate should see a lot of targets, though rumor has it that Marvin Jones will end up in the No. 1 position in the offense. That should suit Tate fine though, as he has flourished as a No. 2 before. We like both players as solid DFS options and WR3 for regular leagues.

JAX - RB Chris Ivory limited again

    Source: Jaguars.com

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Chris Ivory (calf) was limited in practice Thursday, Sept. 8.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Green Bay defense struggled against the run last year but they have improved their lineup a little. Still, Ivory should run the ball well. The downside is he is splitting time with T.J. Yeldon, which will hurt both of them. Consider them both RB4 candidates, with a healthy Yeldon a little higher up in production. If Ivory doesn't play, bump Yeldon up to a solid RB3.

BAL - Two Baltimore tight ends full go

    Source: BaltimoreRavens.com

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (finger) and Maxx Williams (knee) were full participants in practice Thursday, Sept. 8.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pitta is the play here if you need a reasonably priced tight end in daily fantasy. He won't blow anyone away, but we have him as a solid TE2 this week in all formats and he probably won't cost you much in daily games.

SF - RB Carlos Hyde has full practice

    Source: CSNBayArea.com - Matt Maiocco
San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde (concussion) participated fully in practice Thursday, Sept. 8.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Good news for anyone looking for a cheap streaming option. We think Hyde will struggle against a tough Los Angeles (man that's still odd to type) run defense, but could put up decent RB3 numbers.

PIT - WR Markus Wheaton misses practice

    Source: Steelers.com

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Markus Wheaton (shoulder) did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 8.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We don't think Wheaton is a "go" and won't amount to much if he does get cleared. Even if Wheaton is good to go, he's going to be hampered and it will slow him down to WR5 status.

SD - WR Keenan Allen limited

    Source: Chargers.com

San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen (rest) was limited during practice Thursday, Sept. 8.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not worried about Allen, even against a hard matchup in the Chiefs. He's a solid WR2 this week and should be a nice option in most daily fantasy games.

TEN - WR Kendall Wright remains sidelined

Source: The Tennessean - John Glennon

Tennessee Titans WR Kendall Wright (hamstring) did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 8.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We assume Wright is out this weekend, which leaves rookie Tajae Sharpe carrying the load. Sharpe will top out as a WR5 this week against a good Minnesota secondary. Rishard Matthews is the other option among the Tennessee wide receivers, but he's going to have a hard time producing more than WR7 numbers and isn't even worth a Hail Mary start.

CHI - WR Kevin White limited Thursday

Source: Chicago Tribune - Brad Biggs

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White (hamstring) was limited during practice Thursday, Sept. 8.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Not the greatest start to a new season. White also faces a tough opponent in the Houston defense and his quarterback, Jay Cutler, is behind a ragged offensive line. We'd avoid White this week and wouldn't even touch him as a low-cost streaming option in daily games.

HOU - WR Will Fuller expected to play

    Source: NFL.com

Houston Texans WR Will Fuller (hamstring) will be fine for Week 1, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We think Fuller is a solid WR4 play this week and should do well against a poor Bears secondary, especially with DeAndre Hopkins drawing coverage.

MIA - WR DeVante Parker sits again

Source: The Miami Herald - Adam H. Beasley

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (hamstring) did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 8. The Dolphins did not practice Thursday, so this is an estimation.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Seems like Parker is a shaky option for this week's games. The matchup was already less than awesome, as the Seahawks will make it tough for anyone to be productive. Coming off a hamstring injury makes it worse—assuming he plays which we don't. You can drop him to grab another, healthy player with upside when waiver time comes next week.

DET - WR Anquan Boldin to have big role

    Source: DetroitLions.com - Tim Twentyman

Detroit Lions WR Anquan Boldin will be a big part of the offense this season, according to offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There are a ton of weapons here, most of which possessing more upside than the 4,000 year old Boldin. Yes, he's the third wide receiver on a team which will likely run a lot of three-wide sets, but add in tight end Eric Ebron, and Boldin is unlikely to be Matt Stafford's first choice on most plays. We wouldn't start him in redraft or daily fantasy leagues this week.

BAL - RB Justin Forsett says he will start

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens RB Justin Forsett said he will start in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills and is ready for 20 to 25 carries if needed. Forsett may be part of a committee at the position because head coach John Harbaugh said he would like to get all of the running backs involved.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With the uncertainty around who gets how many carries, this whole set up seems like a mess. We see Forsett getting most of the carries, but have little idea what that will amount to. Start him as a middling RB3 if you have to, but keep your expectations low until we see how the carries shake out.

Updating previous reports, Baltimore Ravens WR Devin Hester's contract has a $1.1 million base value with a maximum value of $4 million.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hester might enhance the Ravens Team Defense/Special Teams but don't expect him to be worth anything offensively. We're done falling down that rabbit hole.

DAL - TE Jason Witten restructures

    Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten restructured his contract Thursday, Sept. 8, to create $2.75 million in salary cap space. The Cowboys converted $5.5 million of Witten's $6.5 million base salary into a signing bonus, which reduced Witten's cap number from $8.612 million to $5.862 million. Witten is signed through 2017 and is set to make $7.4 million next season with a cap figure of $12.262 million.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see what the chances are of him actually getting that money are. It's a lot for a guy who, while prolific throughout his career, is aging and doing less and less. With rookie Dak Prescott under center and Ezekiel Elliott likely to get a ton of carries, we see Witten as no more than a TE3 this week.

JAX - TE Julius Thomas to see big role

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike DiRocco

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas will be a significant part of the offense in 2016, and QB Blake Bortles said it would be irresponsible if Thomas weren't.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

On top of that, they can't keep force-feeding the ball to the Allens - Hurns and Robinson. Even though Green Bay's defense was improved last season, we still think Thomas will have a very good day and can see him as a solid TE1 in most formats.

DET - RB Ameer Abdullah to have workload monitored

    Source: MLive.com - Kyle Meinke

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah will have his usage monitored as the team will be wary of overloading him after he had shoulder surgery in the offseason. He has never carried the ball more than 16 times in a game. 'I don't envision him carrying the ball 30 times in a ball game,' head coach Jim Caldwell said. 'I think he's capable, certainly, but that's not his strength. I think he's one of those guys that you have to get it to him a number of different ways.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We always figured the carries would be split in some way between he, Zach Zenner and Theo Riddick, but we still believe Abdullah will get the most. We see him as a borderline RB2/RB3 this week against a usually porous Colts run defense.

TEN - Several Tennessee WRs could be in slot

    Source: TitansInsider.com - Terry McCormick
While Tennessee Titans WR Harry Douglas is expected to be the primary slot receiver in Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings, head coach Mike Mularkey said Thursday, Sept. 7, that WRs Andre Johnson, Rishard Matthews and Marc Mariani might also see time in the spot in various packages.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
This makes it nearly impossible to start a guy like Douglas, who is inconsistent anyway. In fact, rotating guys in like this could hold them all down. We'd avoid this whole mess if at all possible.

    Saturday Update

NE - TE Rob Gronkowski not expected to play Source: NFL Network - Courtney Fallon

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Week 1 but is not expected to play, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Martellus Bennett becomes a top five tight end play on this news, but the outlook for Jimmy Garoppolo and really the whole Patriots offense takes a hit. Perhaps the team is being extra cautious because they are already trotting out a quarterback making his first NFL start, but there's no way to be sure Gronkowski will be ready for the Dolphins next week if he couldn't even make the trip to Arizona this week.

KC - RB Jamaal Charles 'probably' won't play

Source: The Kansas City Star - Terez A. Paylor

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) is considered doubtful for the team's season opener Sunday, September 11, and 'probably' won't play, according to head coach Andy Reid.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West will split the work in this great matchup. Ware was running well ahead of West this summer, but West was listed first on the depth chart this week. Ware's 19-148-2 stat line in two games against the Chargers last year makes him the better play and possible fantasy RB2, although West deserves flex consideration in PPR leagues.

SEA - RB Thomas Rawls under the weather Thursday - Returned Friday

    Source: The Seattle Times

Seattle Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls (illness) did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 8. He was back Friday.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rawls was back Friday and said he was ready for Sunday. He looked fine talking to reporters. Rawls will get some work early in the game against the Dolphins and then the team will decide how much they think he is able to handle for the rest of the game. He's a very risky play because even if the Seahawks pull ahead and create a run-heavy game script, he is likely to rest because the game will be in hand, giving the team no reason to risk a setback for Rawls at this late stage of his return.

MIN - QB Shaun Hill expected to start

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Minnesota Vikings QB Shaun Hill is expected to be the starting quarterback for Week 1, according to sources. The team has not announced if Hill or QB Sam Bradford will start the game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Either way, the gameplan will lean run-heavy and should discourage you from playing any Vikings passcatchers. Bradford should start soon, but likely not this week.

SEA - TE Jimmy Graham expected to play

    Source: ESPN.com - Sheil Kapadia

Seattle Seahawks TE Jimmy Graham (knee) has done everything the team has asked of him during practice and is expected to play in Week 1, according to head coach Pete Carroll.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

All signs point towards Graham playing and we're hoping for the best here. He's a high ceiling guy and worth a shot if you need to roll the dice a bit.

ATL - WR Julio Jones 'fully ready to go' Sunday

    Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (ankle) is 'fully ready to go' in the team's season opener Sunday, September 11, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones has a terrific matchup and might even be considered the highest ceiling wide receiver of the week. Play him with confidence.

CHI - WR Kevin White questionable for Week 1

Source: Chicago Tribune - Brad Biggs

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White (hamstring) is listed as questionable for the Week 1 game against the Houston Texans Sunday, Sept. 11.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

White has been made unavailable to the media, which is always a bad sign for availability. He has had a lackluster summer and White is facing a tough Texans defense getting JJ Watt back just in time for the season opener. Keep him away from your lineups.

BAL - Baltimore confirms RB committee

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Jeff Zrebiec

Baltimore Ravens RB Justin Forsett, RB Terrance West and RB Javorius Allen will all see playing time at some point against the Buffalo Bills in Week 1, offensive coordinator Marc Trestman said Thursday, Sept. 8.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

And when Kenneth Dixon returns, he will also figure into this mess for fantasy football. If you have to play a Ravens back on Sunday, the answer is probably Forsett, but that answer could easily change once Dixon returns from his minor knee injury.

NE - WR Chris Hogan listed as questionable

    Source: NFL

New England Patriots WR Chris Hogan (shoulder) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 9, and is listed as questionable for Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hogan could get some extra targets with Rob Gronkowski out, but the Patriots will likely focus on short passing, so Hogan is much more viable in PPR than nonPPR leagues as a what the heck flex.

NO - WR Michael Thomas questionable

    Source: NFL

New Orleans Saints WR Michael Thomas (ankle) was limited during practice Friday, Sept. 9, and is listed as questionable for Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Most reports have him playing on Sunday, and he has a good matchup if he mostly lines up in the slot against DJ Hayden. Consider him a boom/bust WR3/Flex that requires a Sunday morning check-in before being in your lineup.

MIA - Miami's Friday injury report

    Source: NFL

Miami Dolphins C Mike Pouncey (hip) did not participate in practice Friday, Sept. 9. LB Jelani Jenkins (knee) was limited during practice, while DE Terrence Fede (knee), DT Earl Mitchell (calf), RB Isaiah Pead (hamstring) and OT Laremy Tunsil (knee) fully participated in practice. Pouncey has been ruled out for Week 1, while the other players are listed as questionable.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pouncey being ruled out this early in the week means that we can't be sure he'll play next week at New England. Anthony Steen did a passable job filling in for him in the preseason third week. The Dolphins will likely have trouble running the ball with four offensive tackles flanking Steen on the line.

MIA - RB Jay Ajayi ruled out

    Source: NFL

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi (non-injury) did not participate in practice Friday, Sept. 9, and has been ruled out for Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Arian Foster will get the start and a big workload against the Seahawks, although he is a much better play in PPR leagues. Ajayi is in the team's doghouse and might fall behind Damian Williams and Isaiah Pead if he can't adjust his attitude about losing out to Foster on the depth chart.

HOU - Friday injury report for Texans

    Source: NFL

Houston Texans OT Duane Brown (knee) did not participate in practice Friday, Sept. 9. WR Will Fuller (hamstring), OT Derek Newton (hamstring), DE J.J. Watt (back) and LB Akeem Dent (concussion) fully participated in practice. Brown has been ruled out for Week 1, while the other players are not on the injury report.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fuller's hamstring issue is not what you want to see in a speed receiver for his regular season debut, but the possible reward of a long score against a suspect Bears secondary is enough to take the risk as a WR3/Flex in deeper leagues and DFS lineups.

DET - TE Eric Ebron listed as questionable

    Source: DetroitLions.com

Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 9, and is listed as questionable for Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ebron is a boom/bust TE1 play because he might be rusty coming off of a month-long layoff, but the Colts matchup is excellent and the Lions should pass a lot. They only kept four wideouts on the opening day roster, so Detroit must expect Ebron to be able to play a large role Sunday.

DET - WR Golden Tate questionable for Week 1

    Source: DetroitLions.com

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 9, and is listed as questionable for Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tate is almost certainly going to be active, and he has a matchup that is too good to miss with Vontae Davis out and the Colts defense in shambles up front.

MIA - WR DeVante Parker participates in practice

Source: The Miami Herald - Adam H. Beasley

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (hamstring) participated in practice Friday, September 9, going through warmups and running at least one route early in the session. However, he still appears 'ways off from being game-ready' for the team's season opener Sunday, September 11, versus the Seattle Seahawks.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Parker has had problems with both hamstrings this summer. Rookie Leonte Carroo should get a lot of snaps in three wide sets this week. Parker is potentially on the chopping block in short bench leagues for the big Week 1 waiver wire run.

WAS - Full practice for RB Matt Jones

    Source: Redskins.com

Washington Redskins RB Matt Jones (shoulder) was a full participant in practice Friday, Sept. 9.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones has a risk of re-injury and an early exit because running back shoulders can take a pounding, but he has some touchdown upside against a Steelers defense that should allow Washington to move the ball through the air.

DET - RB Theo Riddick inks three-year extension

    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

Detroit Lions RB Theo Riddick agreed to a three-year contract extension worth $12.5 million Friday, Sept. 9, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Riddick's weekly and season-long upside are both capped by a role that will never include a lot of running between the tackles, but this is a good sign for his bye/injury/emergency value at RB in PPR leagues sustaining for at least a few more years.

JAX - RB Chris Ivory questionable

Source: The Florida Times-Union - Hays Carlyon

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Chris Ivory (calf) is listed as questionable for Week 1, but he's expected to play in Week 1. He participated in the walkthrough Friday, Sept. 9.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ivory should play but this issue presents the possibility of an aggravation during the game or less than 100% effectiveness. Calf injuries can be tough to get over, so hopefully he doesn't appear on the injury report with this issue for much longer. TJ Yeldon is the better play in the Jags backfield this week on the potential for a high-scoring matchup with Aaron Rodgers and the Packers that puts Jacksonville in pass-happy catchup mode in the second half.

PHI - WR Jordan Matthews to work inside and outside

    Source: The Star-Ledger - Eliot Shorr-Parks

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews will run inside and outside in his route trees this season, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Matthews still has to catch passes from a rookie that had less than 40 snaps this preseason, leaving him to learn on the job. The Browns matchup is a good one, but it is still difficult to trust Matthews this week.

TB - WR Mike Evans sheds weight

    Source: ESPN.com - Jenna Laine

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans lost 15 pounds to around 220-225 pounds, which he played at in college. Evans has also worked on the mental aspect, which includes letting go of his mistakes.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Evans should draw Desmond Trufant at least some of the time, but he's still a strong WR2 play with WR1 upside. His targets suffered a bit when Vincent Jackson was healthy last year, but the Bucs offense appears to be more aggressive and Evans could render the drop in targets moot if he's more consistent this year.

KC - RB Charcandrick West a full participant

    Source: Chiefs.com

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (elbow) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 8.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

West was just moved ahead of Ware on the depth chart, but Ware was used and played like the lead back all summer. Even if the workload is close to equal, Ware is the superior back and play on Sunday against the weak Chargers run defense.

    Sunday Update

ATL - Bigger role for RB Tevin Coleman?

    Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure
Atlanta Falcons RB Tevin Coleman seems more comfortable this year, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan, and Shanahan said he plans to ride the hot hand at running back to keep both Coleman and RB Devonta Freeman fresh.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Uh-oh, the dreaded 'hot hand' approach at running back is nothing fantasy owners want to hear. Coleman is a speedy back, but he doesn't change direction as smoothly as Devonta Freeman. The second-year pro is also not as good at catching the ball out of the backfield. However, we saw Freeman wear down last year and the Falcons should use more of Coleman (provided he doesn't get banged up) to help keep Freeman fresh.

HOU - High expectations for RB Lamar Miller

Source: Houston Chronicle - John McClain

Houston Texans RB Lamar Miller has picked up the offense quickly, according to head coach Bill O'Brien, and O'Brien said he is looking forward to seeing what Miller does this season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Miller should be the centerpiece of the Texans offense. We've got him as a RB1 this week against a vulnerable Bears defense.

BUF - RB LeSean McCoy eyeing big opener

Source: The Buffalo News - Jay Skurski

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy is in 'phenomenal shape,' according to offense coordinator Greg Roman, and McCoy said he is 'ready to roll' against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1 after battling injuries most of last season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCoy should get more goal line opportunities with Karlos Williams released, and he'll also get as much as he can handle this year. He's a borderline RB1 and could end up being a value pick this year.

SD - RB Melvin Gordon more confident

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Michael Gehlken

San Diego Chargers RB Melvin Gordon said he has a better understanding of the offense this year, and he believes his struggles last season have made him a more confident player.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gordon had two long scores in the preseason after having zero in his rookie year. The Chiefs on the road are not a great matchup in Week 1, but Gordon's outlook on the whole is looking up.

PIT - Two Steelers WRs expected to share time

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers WRs Sammie Coates and Darrius Heyward-Bey likely will share playing time at outside receiver in Week 1 since WR Markus Wheaton (shoulder) has been ruled out. WR Eli Rogers will be the slot receiver.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Heyward-Bey and Coates are similar in skill set. Both are fast and can get on top of a defense....and both drop too many passes. We're expecting a lot from Antonio Brown on Monday against Washington, but these other Steelers receivers are merely 'what the heck' flex level plays.

WAS - WR Josh Doctson questionable

    Source: Steelers.com

Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson (Achilles') fully participated in practice Saturday, Sept. 10, and is listed as questionable for Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're excited to see what Doctson can do, but expect him to be worked slowly into the mix with Washington. The rookie is talented, and he's used to receiving a heavy workload as a player. He's fourth-string in the pecking order right now behind DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garcon and Jamison Crowder. Doctson has great upside and potential for dynasty owners, but re-draft owners should only consider him a lottery ticket pick/stash/hold.

WAS - RB Matt Jones listed as questionable

    Source: Steelers.com

Washington Redskins RB Matt Jones (shoulder) fully participated in practice Saturday, Sept. 10, and is listed as questionable for Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones should be the lead back for Washington, but he may lose out on some touches against the Steelers on Monday night. Watch for UDFA rookie Rob Kelley and Chris Thompson to get worked into the mix at RB -- especially with Jones banged up. He's a RB2 due to the injury and potential for RBBC.

MIN - QB Sam Bradford 'close' to being ready

    Source: ESPN.com - Josina Anderson

Minnesota Vikings QB Sam Bradford is close to being ready to play, a source told ESPN's Josina Anderson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He's close to being ready, but Shaun Hill is going to start in Week 1. As expected, it looks like Bradford is going to be in line to start in Week 2.

NE - Offensive line a concern for New England

    Source: Patriots.com

New England Patriots OT Nate Solder (hamstring) and OG Jonathan Cooper (foot) have been ruled out for Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals. Backup OG Shaq Mason (hand) is listed as questionable.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The O-line is a concern, and that's bad news for QB Jimmy Garoppolo. He's a young QB and Garoppolo is not known as a player who can play at a high level under duress. Expect the Patriots to use short passing to get the ball out of Garoppolo's hands quickly.

CLE - Cleveland taking long-term view with RG3

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III has not been ruled out as the long-term starting quarterback for the franchise, according to head of football operations Sashi Brown.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's a good perspective to have. Anything can happen in the NFL, and it wouldn't be a total shock to see Griffin revive his career with the Browns. However, we'll need to see if he can stay healthy and thrive with the receiving talent around him.

BAL - Baltimore confident in WR Steve Smith

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith is still a 'great player' in the mind of head coach John Harbaugh, who suggested there is 'no reason' why he will not play 'great' against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We are so happy that Smith decided to play one more season. That being said, we've only got him as a WR6 this week against Buffalo.

NYG - WR Victor Cruz realistic entering 2016

    Source: ESPN.com - Jordan Raanan

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz, who took a total of 38 preseason snaps this summer after missing all the 2015 season with a calf injury, has missed his team's last 26 contests. However, he will play his first game in 700 days when the Giants visit the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We want to see Cruz salsa-dancing in the end zone once again. However, we're leery until we see him back on the field in real game action. Something we haven't seen in a while.

DAL - RB Alfred Morris will have a role in Dallas

    Source: ESPN - Ed Werder

Dallas Cowboys RB Alfred Morris will serve as a strict backup to rookie RB Ezekiel Elliott but is expected to have a role, according to ESPN's Ed Werder.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

His role is a valuable handcuff for fantasy owners. Elliott should dominate and be one of the most productive RBs in fantasy football. If something happens to the rookie, then Morris gets to take over behind a monstrous offensive line. His role while Elliott is healthy should only be as a change-of-pace back.

NYJ - NYJ expecting more balanced backfield?

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets RB Matt Forte will be the clear No. 1 back and offensive coordinator Chan Gailey has already noted he will not be a snap count, but he may be primarily a first- and second-down back while RB Bilal Powell handles the third-down snaps, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep this in mind if you roster either one (or both) of these backs. Against a tough Bengals defense, Forte should be a mid-range RB2 in PPR leagues. If the team gets near paydirt, Powell could work as the primary goal-line back.

HOU - DE J.J. Watt expects to be full-go in Week 1

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt will not be on a snap count in Week 1 versus the Chicago Bears after making a speedy recovery from back surgery to repair a herniated disc in late July, according to the Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That sounds about right. Watt is a freak of nature, and his speedy recovery from back surgery should not be that surprising. Bad news for Bears QB Jay Cutler here.

SD - WR Travis Benjamin adds new element

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Kevin Acee

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin's ability to stretch the field should open up space for intermediate passing routes, and QB Philip Rivers said it took him a while to adjust to Benjamin's speed and realize he couldn't overthrow him on deep routes.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rivers is a QB2 for us this week against the Chiefs. He doesn't have a good history (recently) of going against the Chiefs in Kansas City, but the defense he's going up against is missing some key pieces due to injury and free agency. Benjamin's field-stretching ability is going to open things up underneath for guys like Antonio Gates.

IND - WR T.Y. Hilton's speed to be unleashed

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Stephen Holder

Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton and the rest of the receivers will be asked to use their speed to generate yards after the catch, offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That should be music to the ears of fantasy owners. Hilton has the ability to finish the season as a WR1 so long as QB Andrew Luck is healthy. Chudzinski said he has emphasized the catch-and-run approach all offseason and wants to use speed as a weapon. The team is going to use short passing to help keep the pressure away from their superstar QB.

SD - WR Keenan Allen even faster?

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Tom Krasovic

San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen appears to be even faster this season, QB Philip Rivers said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We love adding Allen to any fantasy team. He's a high-end WR2 this week on the road against Kansas City. Allen could have a career-best season in 2016 provided he stays healthy.

I wonder if it had a lot to do with blowing another big lead, or if it's just the same old Chargers.

    Monday Update

SD - WR Keenan Allen may have torn ACL Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

The San Diego Chargers believe WR Keenan Allen (knee) suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament during their Week 1 game. He will undergo more tests to determine the severity of the injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Every sign around this injury says ACL. The Chargers offense takes a big hit, especially Philip Rivers, but we'll look at Tyrell Williams and Travis Benjamin's value creeping up as there are going to be more targets to go around in San Diego.

NO - Delvin Breaux has fractured leg

Source: The New Orleans Advocate - Nick Underhill

Updating a previous report, it is feared New Orleans Saints CB Delvin Breaux (leg) suffered broken fibula in the Week 1 loss against the Oakland Raiders, a source said Sunday, Sept. 11.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Breaux is far and away the Saints' best corner and he will miss significant time. The Saints face the Giants next week, and the last time those two teams met, the score was 52-49. Eli Manning is looking like a great Week 2 play.

BUF - RB LeSean McCoy finds end zone

    Source: The Associated Press

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy rushed for 58 yards and one touchdown on 16 carries against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1. He also caught four passes for 12 yards during the game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCoy was workmanlike and looked reasonably spry and effective, but the Bills offense offered nothing else to make the Ravens respect the pass. McCoy is going to be a volume RB2 going forward, but his ceiling looks a lot lower today. Next week against the Jets is very tough matchup.

BAL - WR Steve Smith held in check

    Source: The Associated Press

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith caught five passes for 19 yards against the Buffalo Bills in Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Smith led the team in targets, although he wasn't showing the explosiveness to be more than a possession receiver. He's the #1, but on a team that had 10 different players catch a pass today. Consider Smith bench depth heading into Week 2 against Cleveland.

CLE - Robert Griffin injures shoulder

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III (shoulder) said he suffered a sprained shoulder during the team's Week 1 game but expects to be ready for Week 2.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Griffin may be ok physically, although if the Browns offense fizzles out except on deep balls, he might not start for much longer. Gary Barnidge was a forgotten man this week, but he could be rescued if Josh McCown takes over by injury or otherwise.

NO - RB Mark Ingram quiet in opener

    Source: NFL.com

New Orleans Saints WR Mark Ingram rushed 12 times for 58 yards in Week 1 against the Oakland Raiders, and he posted two receptions for 29 yards on two targets.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ingram gave way to Travaris Cadet on a lot of passing down snaps and didn't get the red zone chances that usually buoy his stat lines, but the quality of the offense should rectify that soon. He's still a low RB1/strong RB2 heading into a matchup against the Giants defense that stacked up Zeke Elliott today.

NO - QB Drew Brees starts season off right

    Source: NFL.com

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees completed 28 of his 42 pass attempts for 423 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 1 loss against the Oakland Raiders. Brees connected with WR Brandin Cooks on a 98-yard touchdown for the biggest play of the day.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brees has the best set of weapons he has had in a while, and his defense is getting worse if that is possible. He is looking like a top three fantasy quarterback this year, if not #1. Next week he faces the Giants team that beat him in a 52-49 shootout last year.

NO - WR Brandin Cooks explodes in opener

    Source: NFL.com

New Orleans Saints WR Brandin Cooks posted six receptions for 143 yards and two touchdowns in Week 1 against the Oakland Raiders. The highlight of the game was a 98-yard score in the second half. He was targeted nine times.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cooks' 98-yard score got Sean Smith benched and made many a fantasy day. He isn't far and away the #1 target in the Saints offense, but with quality weapons, he'll have a chance to break a long play or three every week and remain on the WR1 fringe.

NO - WR Willie Snead posts giant stat line

    Source: NFL.com

New Orleans Saints WR Willie Snead posted nine receptions for a career-high 172 yards and a touchdown in the Week 1 game against the Oakland Raiders.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Snead started and ended hot, including a touchdown, which was the main thing missing from his fantasy profile. He's a strong WR2 heading into a matchup against the Giants, and may end up being an everyweek start this year.

ATL - WR Mohamed Sanu limping after game

    Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure

Atlanta Falcons WR Mohamed Sanu (ankle) tweaked an ankle in the Week 1 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and he was seen limping heavily in the locker room after the game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sanu had a good game with a fine touchdown catch and a long gain on a blown coverage, but we'll watch this to see how it will affect him against the Raiders next week. The Oakland corners looked vulnerable against New Orleans, so Sanu will deserve consideration if he has a good week of practice.

ATL - WR Julio Jones tweaks ankle in loss

    Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (ankle) said after the Week 1 loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that he tweaked his left ankle. It was the same ankle he injured during a preseason game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones and Mohamed Sanu were both hobbled with ankle injuries in this game. Jones' ankle looked fine on his catch and run score and we have seen him play well through injuries in the past. More than next week against Oakland, we'll be watching to see if this is becomes a bigger issue as the season goes on.

CLE - TE Gary Barnidge has case of drops

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns TE Gary Barnidge dropped two passes in Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles. He ended up with no receptions or offensive stats.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Barnidge is looking like the odd man out in the Browns offense with Robert Griffin III. He had great success with Josh McCown last year, and Griffin is already nicked, so if you can keep Barnidge or otherwise have misgivings about your other tight end, you might want to hold the top five tight end in 2015.

CLE - WR Terrelle Pryor expects to be fine

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns WR Terrelle Pryor (shoulder) suffered a bruised left shoulder during the Week 1 loss against the Philadelphia Eagles. He was icing the shoulder, but said Sunday, Sept. 11, that he expects to be fine.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pryor made an outstanding play on a deep ball and showed improved route running skills, but his fantasy impact was dampened by a tough Eagles defense. He'll face Baltimore next week.

MIA - Mike Pouncey has hip fracture

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Miami Dolphins C Mike Pouncey (hip) could miss an additional one to two weeks because of a small fracture in his hip. He is scheduled to undergo a CT scan later this week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pouncey is being replaced by Anthony Steen, who looked adequate in the third preseason, but this offensive line is starting four tackles at the other four spots. It could be a rough start to the year for the Dolphins running game.

ARI - WR Larry Fitzgerald may retire after 2016

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald has reportedly told people close to him that 2016 will be his final season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jaron Brown was already an interesting player in dynasty leagues because of Michael Floyd's free agent status. Now he could be in line for an even better chance to play significant snaps next year. Fitzgerald will still be a strong WR3 play this year with a high floor, but this is not the first time we've heard that he could retire after this season.

DEN - WR Demaryius Thomas has hip injury

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas (hip) underwent an MRI exam Friday, Sept. 9, after suffering a hip injury during Week 1's game against the Carolina Panthers Thursday, Sept. 8. He will receive a second opinion on his results, according to multiple sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cody Latimer would be next in line outside, but we won't rush to pick him up. This could make tight end Virgil Green a more prominent target if Thomas misses time. It's not a good sign for the team to seek a second opinion and we have to be open to Thomas missing time or playing at a limited level of effectiveness while he rides out this injury.

Big Ben and Antonio Brown tore up the Redskins last night. Curious to see how other teams will scout them.

Antonio was one of the few top 10 players to put up top 10 numbers.
