CLE - QB Johnny Manziel named the starter

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel has been named the starter for the rest of the season.

The Browns needed to make this happen. They're going nowhere, so starting Josh McCown doesn't make sense. Instead, the team needs to see what Manziel can do in order to make a decision about his future with the team. From a fantasy lens, Manziel is a valuable QB to add. Rushing QBs are always fantasy assets to own and perhaps even start. If Manziel is out there on your waiver wire, spend roughly 20 percent to add him.

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) is in the NFL's concussion protocol and is considered day-to-day, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

Hoyer is now in the league's concussion protocol, and he won't be cleared for football activity until he completes the process. O'Brien is hopeful Hoyer will be able to play this week.

Well, that's that for Michael's hype train. He's a gifted runner, but there are issues with dedication and focus that have not been improved. The Cowboys will move forward with Rod Smith and Trey Williams as the primary backups behind starter Darren McFadden.

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller has scored a touchdown in his last five games, becoming the first Miami player with such a streak since Ricky Williams in 2003. Miller failed to score a touchdown under previous head coach Joe Philbin.

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton has six games this year with at least one passing and one rushing touchdown. No other quarterback in the league has more than two such games this season.

Oakland Raiders LB Aldon Smith has been suspended one year for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.

This suspension was for an "August 28th incident" according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. That specific incident is unknown, but we do know Smith was released by the 49ers for an early-August DUI. He will need to stay on the right path in order to be reinstated next year, but with his history of alcohol-related problems, that may be difficult to do.

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins' recent play has fueled discussions for a contract extension, and head coach Jay Gruden wants the team to sign Cousins. Cousins can become a free agent in the offseason, and there is no evidence that contract talks have taken place thus far.

Assuming his progress continues, Cousins might strike a deal with Washington in the $17 million to $20 million per year range, according to at least one person with NFL front-office experience, given the number of NFL teams seeking a quarterback to build around and the thin pool of prospects.

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning's (ribs, foot) MRI on his injured ribs came back fine, according to head coach Gary Kubiak. Manning's treatment will continue as scheduled this week.

Manning's ribs aren't the biggest problem...it's the partially torn plantar fascia in his left foot. There are many who feel Brock Osweiler could hold onto the starting job if he plays well in the game against Chicago. The team needs to see what Osweiler can do since he's set to hit free agency next year. Also, starting Osweiler for as long as possible would give Manning plenty of time to heal.

He has looked much less mobile than before the injury, and Gates said it feels as though he's running in mud. He has 10 catches on 16 targets for 125 yards in two games since his injury.

Nobody is 100 percent healthy right now. Gates is unsure when he'll be back to full speed, as he's never dealt with a medial collateral ligament injury in his career.

Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders (ankle, finger) would have practiced Wednesday, Nov. 18, had the team's practice not been moved indoors on turf due to high winds outside, according to head coach Gary Kubiak. 'We gave him a day off of the turf,' Kubiak said. 'He took all of the walkthrough and everything, so I would expect him to do everything (when he returns).'

Acupuncture is most commonly used to treat pain, but it can also stimulate nerves, muscles and connective tissue. Ivory first started using acupuncture with the Jets in 2013. He's already carried the ball 156 times this year for 643 yards and six touchdowns in eight games. New York is cautious not to overwork Ivory down the stretch. He's averaging 19.5 carries a game and 4.1 yards per carry in 2015.

We've got him as a WR4, but his ceiling is much higher. Just not certain.

It's unknown if Manning will make the trip with the team to Chicago.

I agree, it's their only chance, rest of the team is solid and Osweiler might get better, Manning won't. Manning's cryptonite is around the corner, playoffs.
