NE - QB Tom Brady's case may be settled

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady's appeal of his four-game suspension still has not been announced, and the NFL is now open to talking with the NFL Players Association about a possible settlement in the case, according to sources.

Brady is not expected to accept any suspension in a settlement with the NFL but is willing to accept a fine. If any suspension stands, then expect legal action from Brady's camp. Hopefully, we get an answer (and an end) to this soon.

SEA - QB Russell Wilson's contract being negotiated

Updating a previous report, Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson and his representatives have issues with the guaranteed money involved in his current offer. Still, Wilson hasn't turned the deal down yet. If both sides don't agree to a new deal soon, Wilson and the Seahawks will have to wait until after the season to try to get a deal done.

If things reach that point, expect the Seahawks to use the franchise tag on Wilson. They've built a Super Bowl contender with Wilson making peanuts. Now, they'll have to pay what he's worth. We can't imagine Wilson going to another team in the near future.

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson said he believes he can play in the NFL at a high level until he's 36 or 37 years old.

If anyone could do it, it's Adrian Peterson. Coming back from a missed season at 30-years old, Peterson could easily rush for 1,500 yards or more in 2015. They could use him quite a bit as a receiver out of the backfield this year, and Peterson should be a top-5 running back in every fantasy draft out there.

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson has the ability to step in and perform at a high level right away, according to head coach Mike Pettine.

Running backs can transition to the pro game a lot quicker than other positions. Johnson is a fantastic receiver out of the backfield, and he's a dangerous weapon in open space. We should see Isaiah Crowell as the hammer for the Browns with Johnson working as a change-of-pace back. His current ADP is RB39 (8.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Martin's breakout rookie season of 2012 is a distant memory. Over the past two seasons, injuries and ineffectiveness have plagued his performance. Charles Sims has been getting a lot of hype this offseason, and he could take over as the starter if Martin struggles early.

That's a good sign for the second-year quarterback. We like the weapons around him at the wide receiver position like Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns. Adding a star tight end like Julius Thomas in free agency is also a boost. The Jaguars need to do a better job of protecting Bortles as he was the most sacked QB in the league last year. He's a QB3 worth stashing in dynasty leagues.

BUF - WR Sammy Watkins' targets to decline?

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins was targeted 128 times last year, but only one receiver has been targeted more than 110 times in a season for head coach Rex Ryan.

We can't see Ryan increasing that number this season...even with a gifted wide receiver like Watkins on his roster. Fantasy owners should consider Watkins a low-end WR2 in PPR leagues. If you can snare him as your WR3, then even better. Nobody doubts his talent, but the nature of the offense is to run early and often--plus, the quarterback situation is bleak. That's why Watkins should go off the board around WR24 and not sooner.

Keep this in mind when considering Wheaton--or even Martavis Bryant. We should see Bryant as the WR2 opposite Antonio Brown this year, but Wheaton might cut into his targets. Wheaton was an excellent route-runner coming out of college, and he could work well as the team's slot receiver. Wheaton's 12.73 air yards per target was tied with Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green for 20th-best in the league--12th best for receivers with 50 or more catches. Keep him on your waiver-wire speed dial.

This should come as no surprise. Clowney is reportedly walking without a limp, but he's still recovering from the microfracture surgery on his knee that ended his rookie season. Carolina Panthers OT Jonathan Martin (back) has chosen to retire. Martin will need surgery on his injured back.

Martin was at the center of the bullying scandal when he was with the Dolphins, but he played for the 49ers last year. The Panthers had picked him up earlier this year, and Martin played mostly as a backup at left tackle behind Michael Oher in offseason workouts. Martin chose to retire rather than undergo back surgery that would have likely caused him to miss the entire 2015 season.

I kinda like Wallace as a flex or something this year, he'll do better with norv and teddy. He scored 10 times last year, not sure I see that repeating however.

St. Louis Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) passed his conditioning test Tuesday, July 24. He will start training camp on the active roster.

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady has given permission to the NFL Players Association to appeal his case in federal court, according to a source. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell upheld Brady's four-game suspension for his involvement in deflating footballs in last year's postseason.

MIN - RB Adrian Peterson won't be limited

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson will still receive a heavy workload this season, according to head coach Mike Zimmer. Zimmer said Peterson will be given as much as he can take.

Peterson could rush for over 1,500 yards this year, and he may go over 2,000 all-purpose yards in 2015. Fantasy owners should look at him as a top-5 fantasy running back even though he's coming off a mostly missed season in 2014.

'Obviously, we're going to have to spell (Peterson) at times like you do a lot of guys. But we get down on the goal line, and we're probably not pulling him out, you know?,' Zimmer said.

MIN - WR Mike Wallace wants to prove himself again

Minnesota Vikings WR Mike Wallace said he definitely has something to prove this year on his new team. Offensive coordinator Norv Turner said the only thing that matters for Wallace is how he performs when he's on the field, not what he says off it. 'If he makes plays, [if] he does the things we want him to do, [if] he works hard in practice, [if] he sets an example in his actions in terms of the way he approaches preparation, then that's leadership,' Turner said. 'What guys say is very meaningless to me. It's obviously what they do.'

Another day, and another positive report about Mike Wallace coming out of Minnesota. Wallace just didn't mesh with Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill, but it seems like he and Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater are getting along famously. We'll see if that chemistry translates into on-field production.

Miller is in the final year of his contract with the Dolphins. The team is going to use him early and often as the lead back for their offense. Fantasy owners should consider Miller a RB2 with upside. He's bulked up this offseason, and we could see Miller rush for 1,000 yards for the second year in a row this season.

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater is expected to continue to improve, according to head coach Mike Zimmer, who doesn't agree with the opinion of anonymous personnel guys for other teams who are expecting a step back in Year 2. 'I know this kid is a great competitor. The things that he did great in college (and) he did great in the NFL (last) year, were two-minute situations, when the competitive things were there. That's not going to change,' Zimmer said Monday, July 27.

We love Bridgewater. He's smart and accurate, and that's two of the most important traits to look for in a quarterback. We don't care about his skinny ankles and all the other BS (like a bad pro day) critics were bashing him for before the draft. Bridgewater has the arm talent and the desire to be one of the best passers in the league. We're excited to see what he can do this year.

This should come as no surprise to anyone. Smith might be able to perform better under new OC Chan Gailey. However, if he struggles to produce then this team could go in a different direction. It's certainly worth noting that backup Ryan Fitzpatrick played the best football of his career when he was under offensive coordinator Chan Gailey in Buffalo.

MIN - WR Jarius Wright ready for new role

Minnesota Vikings WR Jarius Wright said he's prepared to see more time in the slot this year. 'I've been outside a lot with the Vikings,' Wright said, 'but I can definitely transfer over and play the slot.' Head coach Mike Zimmer said Wright has already shown he can succeed there. 'The best things that Jarius did were when he was in the slot,' Zimmer said. 'We keep working him outside but we know he has big value for us in the slot, as well.'

Wright is an explosive player who is fearless when running routes over the middle. He does a good job of creating separation in routes, and Wright has the speed to eat up chunks of yardage quickly. Wright had three games in 2014 where he had over 49 receiving yards (132,123,60), so predicting any sort of a big game out of him is extremely difficult.

NYG - Has WR Victor Cruz increased his speed?

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee) is supposedly faster now than he was before he tore his patellar tendon last season, according to teammate CB Prince Amukamara. Amukamara said Cruz looked fabulous when they trained together for a day earlier this offseason. Cruz is still recovering from the injury, but he is expected to be ready by training camp.

A faster Cruz would be nothing but a good thing for the Giants...and for fantasy owners. Cruz is coming back from a serious knee injury, and the team wants him to be ready by the start of the regular season. Fantasy owners should consider Cruz a low-end WR4 with upside. As he gets healthier, his ADP should rise--even if his snaps are extremely limited in the preseason.

Depending on how Detroit copes with "life after Suh", Vikings could have the best defense in division too.

KC - S Eric Berry cleared for practice

Kansas City Chiefs SS Eric Berry (illness) has been cleared to take the practice field with the team Wednesday, July 29. He was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in December 2014. After several rounds of thorough testing and a process that concluded Tuesday, July 28, he has been given the green light.

Forsett is a RB2 with RB1 upside for fantasy owners.

NE - QB Tom Brady offered lesser penalty

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots QB Tom Brady could have had his suspended reduced based on a series of conditions. According to a source with knowledge of the situation, the NFL was willing to drop the suspension by 'at least 50 percent' if Brady admitted to having knowledge of what the team's staff was doing to footballs, he admitted to failing to cooperate with the Ted Wells investigation and he apologized.

Brady continues to declare his innocence in this whole debacle, and he hasn't exactly cooperated 100 percent in the investigation. The general feeling is that most judges are going to rule against something that has been collectively bargained for. Thus, Brady's four-game ban might stick.

If the rookie can show improved patience as a runner, he'll be a dangerous asset for the Chargers offense.

At the end of the day, the Falcons may just use a RBBC featuring both (and Antone Smith) in 2015.

It's all on Tannehill this year. The team has made improvements on both sides of the ball, and now they're looking for their quarterback to take his game to the next level. Fantasy owners should be excited by Tannehill this season. Last year, Tannehill finished as the 9th-best fantasy quarterback. This year, he should put together another top-10 season. We like him as a low-end QB1, but if you can get him as a QB2 even better.

SD - TE Antonio Gates talks suspension

San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates spoke publicly Thursday, July 30, the first time since being suspended for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy. Gates said he was shocked to learn the news and that he didn't know how the substance entered his body. Gates said he tested positive for a substance that produced elevated testosterone levels. 'As you get older, you have to find a way to take care of yourself in terms of recovery,' Gates said. 'Unfortunately, certain things that you take in light of trying to do the right thing, in trying to make sure that when you're done playing that you can walk, talk and enjoy your family, is just not NFL approved.'

While Gates is out, the Chargers are going to turn to Ladarius Green. Gates will miss the first four games of the 2015 season. Green has great speed and can stretch the seam of a defense. We'll see if Bradford can stay healthy this year after knee injuries plagued him during his time with the Rams. If healthy, Bradford could perform like a QB1 for fantasy owners--and you can draft him like a low-end QB2.

A scrambling quarterback can be a valuable fantasy asset, and Taylor is one of the most athletic quarterbacks in the league.

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick has impressed his teammates this offseason by improving the touch on his passes. FS Eric Reid said he's optimistic about how Kaepernick will do this year, especially with the touch he's seen on deep throws.

Right now Coleman is usually going 2-3 rounds ahead of Freeman on rookie promise.

I think the OL being so soft is a much bigger issue than the wr's.
