Padres' Andrew Cashner Scratched on Monday
Could a trade be imminent? Cashner may be the Pads' best commodity right now.

He could be traded to the disabled list...

Andrew Cashner was scratched from his start Monday against the Giants due to shoulder soreness.

Where do you see "shoulder soreness"? I think they are just giving a bogus reason for a healthy scratch.

            I am seeing:

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that Andrew Cashner has been scratched from his scheduled start against the Giants on Monday.
No reason has been given as to the reason for the scratch, but with a change in management on Sunday, a trade is certainly a possibility.

Plus the trade rumors surrounding Cashner were going on before Gwynn's death, which put everything on hold. Now the mourning period is apparently over with the firing of Byrne yesterday, and the timing of this scratch combined with everything else only feeds the trade speculation more.

And if it really is shoulder soreness, why not say that right from the outset instead of giving no reason initially?

I guess he is hurt, sorry. The same guy that said "No reason has been given" now reports:

Andrew Cashner was scratched from his start Monday against the Giants due to shoulder soreness.

Rumors suggested Sunday that a trade might be in the works given the Padres' recent front office change, but there was never any substance to them. CBS Sports' Jon Heyman says Cashner's right shoulder is "a little sore" and the Padres want to play it safe. Odrisamer Despaigne will start in his place versus San Francisco.

As I said in Post #7, now seems to be legit shoulder soreness. But the trade rumors are still there, we will all know by the trade deadline next month.

Not the best time to trade him anyway. If he can prove he's healthy deal him at the deadline or wait until the offseason. Nobody will pay a premium for a pitcher with a bum shoulder and an injury history. They have other pieces they could deal anyway. Street, Benoit, Kennedy. They need to get more hitters that can produce in that ballpark. Padres use to have such a good looking minor league system just 2-3 years ago, now outside of a hand full of guys it looks like shit.

Padres placed RHP Andrew Cashner on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 19, with a right shoulder injury.

Cashner is battling some shoulder soreness and the 32-44 Padres don't want to risk making it worse. Odrisamer Despaigne will start in his place Monday versus San Francisco and could take multiple turns in the San Diego rotation if his debut goes well. Cashner, 27, owns a 2.36 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 76 1/3 innings this year.

Cashner is always battling the shoulder soreness. Methinks he will be converted to bullpen/closer sooner than later. He'll never be able to pitch anywhere near 200 innings as a starter.

Despaigne sure did have a nice major league debut. Not bad for only being in the Padres organization for over a month. The hitting of that team has been dreadful.

The Giants may disagree. Pads scored 13 runs while winning first two games of that series last two nights. San Diego is a tough team when they actually score runs because they do not blow many leads with their great bullpen.

Padres pitching is solid. I think they need to build the team offensively with speed and line drive gap hitters. Try and emulate the Cardinals teams from the 80's.
