Toledo coach Amstutz to be reassigned by university
    Jump om Akron -4.5

Tom Amstutz has taken Toledo to four bowl games in eight seasons as the Rockets' head coach, but the man affectionately known as "Toledo Tom" will be stepping down as the school's coach.

ESPN The Magazine's Bruce Feldman reported the story Sunday night. The school confirmed Amstutz's imminent departure at a Monday morning news conference.

Amstutz is in the fourth year of a five-year deal. Toledo is 2-6 and will finish the year with a losing record for the third straight time.

One of the two victories this season did come against Michigan, but the Rockets have lost two in a row since beating the Wolverines.

Amstutz is 57-38 in eight years at Toledo. He's taken the Rockets to four bowl games and two Mid-American Conference championships.

He said at a news conference Monday he will work in the university's alumni office.

"I'm proud of the body of work I've had," he said.

Toledo ranks near the bottom of the Football Bowl Subdivision in almost every team statistic the NCAA keeps. The Rockets are 84th in rushing, 79th in passing and 99th in defense.

The Rockets play at Akron on Nov. 5.
