Everyone keeps saying SDST was "unlucky", but let's look at the points ND left on the field.
They too fumbled inside the 3 yard line. So that's a wash.
ND also missed 2 fgs, threw a pick inside SDST's 20 yard line, and missed a wide open WR standing alone in the endzone. Add that to the fact that SDST scored their first score after a ball hit a ND WR right smack in the chest and bounced into the arms of a SDST defender who returned it 25 yards to set up the first score.
Please don't take this as an endorsement of ND. I wouldn't play them at all. But they did make a ton of mistakes that is typical of young teams. When I break down a game I really like to see how old/young a team is, and ND may be the youngest team in 1-A football. Their QB Clausen is a true soph. Both starting RBs are true sophs (Allen and Hughes), their starting TE is a true frosh, their X-WR is a true frosh (Floyd), and their Y-WR is a true soph. That is stupid young. And young players make really dumb mistakes.
I wouldn't be shocked if Michigan won on Saturday, I just don't see the value versus risk being worth it.Comment -
