Poinsettia Bowl to lead off the bowl season
    postseason schedule
    April 12, 2006

SAN DIEGO (AP) - The Poinsettia Bowl has been scheduled for Dec. 19, giving it the leadoff spot in college football's postseason.

The game, to be played at Qualcomm Stadium, will match a Mountain West Conference team against an at-large team.

Navy won the inaugural Poinsettia Bowl 51-30 over Colorado State last year.

The Poinsettia Bowl is promoted by the same group that puts on the Holiday Bowl. Last year the games were played a week apart. This year, they will be nine days apart to give the organizers more time before the Holiday Bowl, which will be played Dec. 28.

The Holiday Bowl, also played at Qualcomm Stadium, matches the Pac-10 runner-up against the third selection from the Big 12
