2008 Season - Four Teams Worth Watching
When i looked at the schedule for USC last year, I smelled trouble.

Way to easy for the first six weeks or so. A "K State" type schedule (when Bill whatzisname was HC there) too many creampuffs.

I like what Texas did a few years back. Second game of year they travelled to Ohio State, and narrowly won a tough game. Then went undefeated rest of the year to win the champship.

I had a feeling the USC, despite easily having the best personnel of all the teams, would be in danger. Their intensity dwindled thorugh the season, and didnt return until the end.

Ya gotta put in a tough early game, take a chance to get there in the end.

USC under Carroll is a recruiting machine. He has it down to a science. But in my view they lost too much talent TY and I'm lookin' at both Oregon teams to make noise.

Bellotti is the best coach in Pac Ten, and even with t he loss of the big RB will be there. And the Beavs had a good season last year and seem ready to challenge.

Georgia in the SEC. Of course, Florida gets Tom Heisman back, and they have a matured defense (tho still not as lights-out dominant as two years ago, when they won the Nat'l CS.)

Bulldogs won 11 games LY and get back almost all key starters. The Cocktail Party game should be a barn burner.

In the ACC I'll take a longshot. North Carolina.

Florida St no longer dominates this conference. And Miami has not fared as well, except initial years, as they did in Big East.

Even VTech does not appear as dominant as they once did. It's a Parity conference. Wake won the title 2 years ago.

Tarheels HC Butch Davis didn't cut mustard in NFL, but has won the Nat'l CS in college (with Miami). He has, what old Al Campanis once called "the necessities".

And he brought in a stellar cast of asst coaches when he signed on two years ago.

They had a terrific recruiting class two years ago, those players should be ready to go.

Heels did not have a winning season in '07, but they could storm the ACC TY.

UNC in the ACC, is really going out on a limb. . . Va Tech should get the job done.

Sure, VTech is the popular public choice but in the Futures I'll take a small flyer on Heels.
