=== BYU down to one QB; Nelson out with shoulder injury ===
Provo, UT (Sports Network) - Brigham Young University junior quarterback
Riley Nelson will miss the remainder of the season following shoulder surgery,
the school announced on Tuesday.
Nelson suffered the setback in last Saturday's game against Florida State.
Though it is to his non-throwing shoulder, an MRI revealed that the nature of
the injury puts recovery time at 4-to-5 months.
He'll end the season having completed 20-of-40 passes for 205 yards and two
touchdowns while adding 148 yards and a score on 31 rushes.
"We will miss Riley's leadership, toughness and playmaking ability," said BYU
head coach Bronco Mendenhall. "Unfortunately, injuries are part of football.
Riley is a great young man and we will look forward to his return."
Going forward, the Cougars will turn to freshman Jake Heaps -- who had been
used in tandem with Nelson since the start of the season.
Heaps is a true freshman out of suburban Seattle, and was ranked the top high
school signal-caller in the country by Rivals.com.
BYU (1-2) hosts undefeated Nevada on Saturday.
