Heisman Trophy winner Ingram to miss Alabama's opener
SCALOOSA, Ala. -- Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram of Alabama will miss the season opener after injuring his left knee during practice.

He was hurt Monday and coach Nick Saban said in a statement the star tailback had an arthroscopic procedure Tuesday. The coach says Ingram should make a full recovery in a "relatively short time."

The top-ranked Crimson Tide opens Saturday against San Jose State. Alabama's biggest nonconference game comes when No. 19 Penn State visits on Sept. 11.

Saban says "everyone involved" thought it better to get the problem taken care of quickly so Ingram wouldn't have issues later in the season. The coach adds that decisions on Ingram's recovery will be made week to week.
    Thats a shame for Ingram.

Not much of a blow for alabama. Richardson is a solid player.

The question is how long will Ingram the out. My guess is more than 1 game.

Sounds like he'll probably be out for the Penn State game too? Sucks for him, but Bama is loaded at rb.

damn I'd say 3 games at least before he's back 90%. I've had 2 scopes and a reconstruction and he'll be jogging after a week or 2 but definitely not at 'football speed'. No sense in rushing him back for Duke just to have him out for SEC play due to a tweak

Yeah, more realistically will be a return for either the Arkansas or Florida game. From the indications it wasn't a major injury and the condition he is in will aid in a quick recovery.

Richardson's shoulder is a little dinged up too, but he's going to get the start. Can't see him getting many carries given that, especially if Ingram is going to be out for a while. Something to consider for those taking Bama in week 1.

As mentioned, his shoulder might be dinged a bit, but damn, it must be nice when the 2nd-string RB on your team is the most physically talented, & has the makings of a being a top-5 pick in the Draft.

Yea I see T-Rich banging the ball the first half and then resting the second with a comfortable lead. Not sure how that -37.5 spread is looking right now but I'll bet the first half is a good choice right now.

I thought SJSU was the pick before the injury and am more confident now. Bama struggles to cover big spreads against inferior teams. Going to be very vanilla on Saturday waiting for Penn State.

Even I would agree with that. It will be nice seeing the young talented runners getting a chance to shine Saturday! I can't wait!!!
