Any ideas of which they are? Are all the top ones: PAC10, Big 10, Big 12, ACC, SEC, Big East about the same?
How much lower are the rest of the 1A confs?

SEC is clearly the best. The rest are all about the same.

Actually, it is not called that way. We have the Division 1 and it is divided into the FBS and the FCS (Formerly Division 1-A)
On the FBS outside the 6 powerhouses you have the Conference USA, Sun-Belt, MAC, WAC and Mountain West. WAC and Mountain West have produced unbeaten teams going to big bowls.

The SEC is the best conference in college football at any level. As far as FBS conferences are concerned,I rank them this way:
1. SEC
2. Big 10
3. Big 12
4. Pac 10
5. ACC
6. MWC
7. Big East
8. WAC
9. CUSA
10. MAC
11. Sun Belt
The Big 10, Big 12, Pac 10 and ACC are very interchangeable.

I agree with you Bigdaddy, I think 2-5 change almost on what seems to be a weekly basis. I used to say Big 12 would of been number 2 but then you have to take into account that they are ranked high based on 2-3 teams usually. The ACC is full of scrubs. Pac 10 is the conference that boggles my mind every weekend. You never know who is gonna win. The Pac 10 does usually have some pretty entertaining games on late nite to watch with lots of long TDs. The best could lose to the worst on almost any given Saturday. The Big 10, well I just dont care for the Big 10 so I will leave that there.

SEC is the only conference. Until the Big Ten and Pac 10 get a championship game, I would rate them behind the Big 12.

Agree with a lot of the points made by the above posters. For the coming year, this is how I see the strongest conferences (among those in the BCS):
1) SEC - 4 straight BCS titles says it all. Alabama, Florida, LSU, Auburn, Arkansas, and Georgia are all top 25 teams (and are all capable of being top 10 teams), South Carolina is close. Ole Miss, Miss St., Kentucky, and Tennessee are all fairly interchangeable at this point, Vanderbilt brings up the rear. Easily the best, at this point it's not very close. I do think we may see the gap close a bit this year, however.
2) Big 12 - Oklahoma, Texas, and Nebraska are easily the cream of the crop here, in everyone's top 25 and in most people's top 10. Kansas and Missouri are fringe top 25 teams, perhaps a step ahead of Texas Tech and Texas A&M. OK State looks to drop off, Baylor has a chance to be decent but looks pretty run of the mill, while Colorado, Kansas State, and Iowa State look to be weak this year.
3) Big 10 - Ohio State has had the run of the conference, and is the favorite again this year. Iowa and Wisconsin had good years last season, and return a lot of talent and can be considered top 10-15 teams. Penn State is a legit top 25 team, after that, things start to taper off. Purdue and Northwestern should improve but are still unproven, Michigan has sucked under R Rod, Michigan State is always mediocre, Indiana, Illinois, and Minnesota are going to be garbage.
4) ACC - I think this league is on the upswing this year and just about had them at 3. Miami, Florida State, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, and Georgia Tech are at or near the top 25, but have a lot to prove before any of them are legit top 10 teams. BC and Clemson are probably next in the race, Wake Forest, Maryland, Virginia, NC State, and Duke look to have rough goes of it this season.
5) Pac 10 - The off-season has been rough on the Pac 10, with Masoli getting booted off Oregon and USC (the big one) getting sanctioned. Oregon is still the favorite and may be a top 10 group, then you have Oregon State as a legit top 25 school, Arizona and Washington with a shot at the same, UCLA, Stanford and Cal looking mediocre, and Arizona State and Washington State looking bad. USC is basically out of the picture for 2 years as far as rankings and bowls go, but are still going to be a top 25 caliber team (talent wise) in all likelihood.
6) Big East - Pitt and West Virginia should be toward the rear of the top 25, with UConn and Cincinnati close behind. Rutgers and South Florida look to be decent, while Louisville and Syracuse do not. Not to step on the toes of any Big East fans here, but the Cincinnati - Florida bowl game last year said it all in terms of the difference between the top and the bottom of the BCS conferences.

SEC
Big 12
Big 10
Pac 10
Big East
ACC
MWC
The MWC is extremely top heavy. TCU, BYU, and Utah are all very good, but after that the conference is full of scrubs. Top to bottom, I can't rank them ahead of any BCS league.

SEC by a mile
And Pac-10 is NOT better than Big Ten. Hard to argue SEC, Big 12, Big Ten in that order.

ACC is garbage, but otherwise not bad. My top 4 are SEC, Big 12, Big 10, MWC, with Mountain West still underrated.
