    Realignment shakes up college football
The latest conference shakeup in college sports seems to be over, but how long will the silence last and what are the short- and long-term ramifications?
The Big 12 was at the epicenter of the action. The first domino to fall was Colorado joining the Pac-10 after the 2011-12 seasons. It was a natural fit based on geography as well as academic profile.
Nebraska was the next to leave, with the Cornhuskers going to the Big Ten following the upcoming 2010-11 school year. That was a good fit based on location and gives the conference 12 members after adding No. 11 Penn State in the early 1990s. It also paves the way for a Big Ten football title game as early as 2011.

I think it is over for now...unless the big 12 (or now 10) goes after more teams in the near future to get back to a playoff game and possibly strengthen that weak north division

The Little 10 really has nowheres to go. The ONLY place they can expand to is in Texas, which would force Oklahoma and Oklahoma State into the North. Can you see anyone but Oklahoma winning the North with a division that would consist of Okie State, Iowa State, Missouri, and the two Kansas Teams? OU would win 10 our of 9 divisional championships. That means that OU and Texas would play each other twice in 9 seasons out of 10, because the South, with the additions of Houston and either TCU, or SMU, or Six Flags over Dallas would be just about as weak. The Little 10 made it's bed. Now they must sleep in it. Starting in 2011, the OU-Texas game willdecide then Little 10 Championship until they go out of existance.

Colorado will also move their departure from the Big 12 to the Pac 10 up one year, so the Pac 10 can start their conference championship game in 2011.

Hard to say. They certainly held the rest of the former Big 12 hostage. They got their own T.V. network. They still get the biggest slice of the pie. Who knows?

Maybe. They certainly have shown that they want no part of competition. By insisting on a 10 team conference, they make it easier for themselves to win the Conference title, but harder for them to gain any kind of national respect, which will come back to bite them.
