why is spiking the ball not intentional grounding??? Is there a rule for it specifically??? I really want to know this, to me, it appears it should be intentional grounding. Not out of the box or going at any reciever. Thanks Later

#2It's only intentional grounding to throw a pass to nobody TO AVOID THE SACK. It is clearly to stop the clock so no foul.Comment -

#3I mean so you can pull the ball back, check the recievers, nobody is open so spike the ballComment -

#5The "real" reason for this is that technically there is a receiver in the area. The running back or tight end is less than 5 yards from the pass.
FYI, they will call grounding if you are in the pocket and not trying to avoid the rush.
