It was the right play. They were dominating from the beginning. It's not Texas' fans or their players' fault that McCoy got hurt.
Saban's a terrible coach, calling a fake punt on 4th and 23 inside his own 20, then when it became obvious that Texas couldn't stop the run and that McElroy was choking the game away by getting sacked every time he dropped back to pass, Saban kept throwing. Then with a 24-6 lead in the 2nd half, calling pass plays got McElroy sacked inside his own 10, setting up Texas with good field position twice and allowing them to have short fields and cut the score to 24-21.
Mack Brown's coaching staff almost brought the team back with a freshman qb while McElroy looked as bad as Tennessee's qb (the worst qb in college).
All Saban had to do was run the ball, but he wanted to let McElroy throw because he wanted to prove he had confidence in him, and it almost cost them the title.
Another ugly Nick Saban championship. Oh well, at least I took bama
