    Appalachian State vs. Montana
Fellas, I follow App State closely living here in NC. I have several friends who are grads from there and fanatics. They always throw it in all of our faces that with the Carolina Panthers, Duke, Tar Heels, NC State, ECU, etc. that App State year in and year out is the ONLY real chance at ever providing any kind of football championship to the state of NC. That has proved all too true so many times. Basketball is a different story in NC of course...

Anyhow, I know that Montana is undefeated, and that App State has 2 losses, etc. but Montana has really not played the level of competition that App State has in my eyes. App State's 1st loss, and 1st game of the year, was against ECU (who just won the Conference USA title against Houston). It was a great game with App coming back from being down, and keeping it close until the end with a 29-24 loss. They then lost the following week to an okay McNeese State team 40-35, but they were gassed and primed for a let down after the heartbreaking loss to their in-state big brother ECU.

After that, App went on a tear and took care of the scrappy teams in the Southern Conference that are always gunning for them, since they are the team to beat every year. Teams like Wofford, Georgia Southern, Furman, Elon, and Western Carolina are unknown to most of you guys and not even on the map nationally but they are all old school southern football teams (a few being decades old NC & SC rivals of App of course) that get up for them every game, and usually give App a fight. App blew through all of them with only Wofford and Western Carolina giving them the most competion with 10 and 5 point losses respectively. Wofford, by the way, is where the owner of the Carolina Panthers, Jerry Richardson, played in college before he went on to play with Johny Unitas as a wide receiver, where they won an NFL Championship together in the '50's. He took the few thousand dollars he won from that game and invested in what would become Hardees restaurants, and that is how he made his millions. He was able to use his old NFL connections, and those millions, to get the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte, NC in 1995. Wofford is the home of Carolina Panthers training camp every year too, and they have NFL caliber facilities provided by Richardson as a gift to his alma mater (and to support Panthers training camp there every August of course.) And Western Carolina is where Brad Hoover, the Panthers starting fullback, went to college. He is a hero there, and all these old crusty Southern Conference football fanatics and Western Carolina alums love that he is playing for NC's NFL team.

Anyhow, the point to all of this rambling and useless information is that the Southern Conference, although a Division I-AA conference, is an old school football conference at its heart, with a rich history and deep football traditions. App State in the Southern Conference is the Division I-AA equivalent of Florida or Alabama in the SEC. Montana is about to run into a well coached jugernaut, and they are in for a fight. Their undefeated record, App's two losses, and the fact that their undefeated record is giving them the home field advantage, is providing us with line value from the oddsmakers.

I fully expect App State to win this game outright fellas, but just like any playoff game anything can happen, so I am taking the points and field goal protection as insurance. If you are tailing me, or undecided and just looking for action, then I hope that this information is helpful, and that my analysis is right on the money.

Good luck today with whatever you are on. I hope that we all make money and cash.

    And, Go APP STATE +3.5!!!

And Teaserpleaser, if I am wrong, I am glad that someone will profit from it.

App is looking flat early on here fellas. Maybe a little sluggish in the cold. It is cold in the mountains of NC of course, but not that cold! 16 degrees and with snow on the way! This game will be really fun to watch if the snow starts barreling down.

That was a good stop for them on that series, lets see if they can settle down, get in a little offensive rhythm, and get some points on the board for us.

Yeah man, I sure did. Those dudes with their shirts off too, in 16 degrees???

Great home field advantage with those loyal fans packed in there, the freezing cold, altitude, etc.

It is good to see them get excited about their team, the playoffs, the undefeated season and so on. These guys never are on TV, nobody knows anything about either team, and it is their turn to get some national attention (especially since this game should have more action and scoring than Army/Navy).

I wish the NCAA would take notice of how cool it would be to have a playoff in college football, instead of the BCS!!!

Teaser, I am glad you cashed dude.

Fellas, sorry about giving you a loser tonight. I was really confident that this game would come down to the wire. The snow just got the best of App, but regardless, that guy still should have caught that ball, and this game should be in OT!

Oh well, that was a great game. Take The Dallas Mavericks tonight -7.5 against the Charlotte Bobcats - that should hopefully even things out and balance out the losing pick.

Just a very tough beat on AS. I can't believe the coach tried a 45-yard FG in those conditions when his kicker just had one blocked from 15 yards closer earlier. You gotta try and punt there, even from the 28, and try and pin them. If you get that ball downed inside the 10, you're defense is in business.

Hey man, guess a bunch of "honkies" who don't play "your level of competition during the regular season" just went ahead and beat your oh so successful team to advance to the finals. Despite the constant will of the referees to lend a helping hand to your team, we ARE number one in the country for a reason and we out played your team hands down. You wanna compare the talents of teams on both sides of the ball, look no further than the final score of tonights game. GO GRIZ!!!

Congrats on a great win. That was a great game. Your fellow "honkies" from the mountains of NC will be pulling for you next week, and with your solid team, we have no doubt that you will win the whole thing. Congratulate all of your fellow Griz fans from all of us in NC, and good luck on Friday.

Seattle Slew, here I am talking about how well coached App is, and the coaching staff is making poor decisions like trying to kick field goals in tough conditions that your team is not used to playing in, and when you don't make it or they are blocked, it gives their team and their good offense excellent field position to march right back down the field. That 45 yard attempt at that time was a terrible call by the coaching staff.
