Week 14 in college football brings a lot of exciting games and betting opportunities, featuring conference titles games, and this year, the meeting of the likely two best teams in the country. SBR.tv’s Peter Loshak and Justin7 take a look into some of the lines involved with these marquee matchups.
No. 6 Boise St is a 48-point home fave over New Mexico St, a team that features one of the worst passing games in all of college football. But Justin7, a well-known aficionado of enormous dogs, thinks that might confer an edge to a bet on New Mexico St, since a complete abandonment of the pass may reduce the overall number of possessions in the game.
Illinois is a team that has burned a lot of money over the past two years, with an 8-14 ATS record. But they have begun playing better recently, and are actually 4-1 ATS over their last 5. They come into their Senior Day as a 3-point home favorite over Fresno St, a solid WAC team that has little to play for in this game. The Bulldogs’ vulnerabilities on defense seem to match up favorably for Illinois, with the Illini featuring a mobile QB and a spread-option offense. Justin gives his model’s line on the game.
The MAC title game on Friday features two teams with thriving offenses, and Loshak questions Justin about a possible play on the Over with the total posted at a reasonable number of 53. Central Michigan has averaged 40 points a game against the MAC this year, while Ohio has averaged 28. The Bobcats though, could be facing a serious injury to their senior starting QB Theo Scott, who injured his ankle late in their last game.
The title games in the Big East, the ACC and the Big 12 all present intriguing matchups with interesting lines, and Loshak and Justin look into them a bit from various angles, and Justin relates a curious situation with his model that concerns the Texas/Nebraska game.
The biggest game of the week, and probably the year, is No. 1 Florida against No. 2 Alabama in the SEC title game. These two teams met last year with the Crimson Tide as a big dog, and they were leading most of the way until the Gators dominated the fourth quarter and got the win and cover. Some questions have been raised about this year’s version of Alabama’s ability to move the ball against Florida, and Justin responds to that with a lean on this game on both a side and the total.
