I really don’t know why this was chosen as a resolution to any football game. In my opinion, this would be the same as the following in other sports:
Baseball:
1 at bat each team,
guy gets on base via walk or hit (regardless of the hit) game continues
Basketball:
1 on 1,
get a score keep going
Hockey:
Shootout like it is but just one after another
