Some interesting info I found on this Game Oregon State are better than we thought..
The Oregon State Beavers improved big time last year under head coach Jonathan Smith, their former quarterback. They went from 2-10 in his first season to 5-7 last year and had three losses by 3 points or less. That’s how close they were to being an 8-4 team. And now Smith welcomes back 14 returning starters from last year’s squad and is in his third year with the program.
The Beavers have had a couple tough losses to open the season. They were upset 28-38 in the opener by Washington State, and last week they lost 21-27 at Washington as 13-point dogs. They will be highly motivated for their first win of the season and should get it here against a California team that couldn’t have looked any worse in the opener.
The Golden Bears were upset 10-34 at UCLA as 3.5-point favorites. Their offense has always been terrible under Justin Wilcox in averaging 21.5 and 21.2 points per game the last two seasons. And it appears the offense is going to be even worse this season.
The Golden Bears managed just 176 total yards against a terrible UCLA defense that gave up 48 points to Colorado in their opener. And Cal allowed 440 total yards to the Bruins, getting outgained by 264 yards. It was a terrible look
