    Minnesota, Purdue: Over 63

    Game Time: 9/23/2006 12:00:00 PM
    By: Alex Smart

The Gophers and Boilermakers should keep the scoreboard operator busy this Saturday in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Purdue enters into this game exhibiting an explosive offense this year averaging 45.3 PPG in their first three games of the season. The Boilermakers' defense has been at the proverbial opposite end of the spectrum allowing an average of 31.3 PPG during the same span.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers have been equally dangerous with the ball scoring 62 points last time out against lowly Temple and pummeling Kent State for 44 points in their first game of the season. In the Gophers' only game against a top ranked program at California, their defense was bashed for 42 points.

Minnesota has gone over in 6-straight games when the total is 56½-63 over the last three seasons. These teams fought it out in a 42-35 shootout last season. Considering the above mentioned data, look for a repeat performance.

I don't know. Seems a bit high to me. I'll probably stay away from this one.

Keep in mind that 42-35 game last year went into double overtime which accounted for 21 points. It was 28-28 at the end of regulation.

But...believe it or not even with the high total I still think it goes over.

***EDIT*** Now that I see there's an 80% chance of rain including Thundershowers during the game I'm changing sides and leaning towards the under.

If it rains, this total stays under. 63 is a lot of points...

not sure to make of this one at all...Purdue doesn't have much of a D though and Minny's D is definitely worse on the road...
