Whoaaaaa Nellllllyyyyyy!!!!! The Buckeyes and Longhorns clash for the second year in a row only this time they’re the #1 and #2 ranked teams in the country!
What more can you ask for in only the second week on the college football season? Last year saw the Longhorns escape Columbus with a 25-22 road win and cover. The Buckeyes had to settle for too many FG’s, and QB Vince Young was just too much for OSU’s defense to keep down for a full 60 minutes as he struck for the death blow with two minutes remaining.
Ohio State (125)
This year’s match-up has a much different taste to it though. The Horns are the reigning National Champions, and carry even more confidence with them because of it. However, OSU now has the more experienced QB leading them, and that’s going to play an enormous role in this game. QB Troy Smith is the Buckeyes trump card. As he goes, the Buckeyes go and I expect him to be on top of his game this time around. OSU has the hogs up front to neutralize the Horns solid defensive front seven to allow the Buckeyes ground game to churn out positive yardage.
The Longhorns stop unit got fat off of North Texas’ offense last week, and might come into this one thinking they’ll do just the same. The Buckeyes offense would never be confused wit that of the Mean Green, and I’m expecting it to be successful on the ground and through the air. Texas’ recent suspensions to members in their secondary couldn’t have come at a worse time. WR’s Ginn Jr. and Gonzalez have to be foaming at the mouth to get back at the Horns for their only home loss of the season a year ago. Texas QB McCoy looked the part last week vs. the Mean Green, but the athletic Buckeyes defense is an entirely different monster.
Everyone’s calling for OSU’s defense to be their Achilles Heel. I don’t buy it, and they did a solid job in limiting the Huskies potent attack last week. Their defense will do just enough to keep them in the game, and the offense will get them over the top. Grab the points if u like, but you won’t need them when it’s all said and done. Buckeyes win SU!
