why is casino illegal in India?

Does any one know why casino is illegal in India..?

There are a lot of countries that have banned Casino's, as to the exact reason India have them banned I am unsure.

There a lot of factors from religion to heritage and even crime. From what I have read it would seem as if the government are considering lifting these bans, but could be some time away.
