I didn't have the audio on. I think it was a close fight. Vegh landed the better/harder shots, but Newton was moving forward and had some flash. I'm not arguing that he should've won the fight if fights were scored fairly, but if you reran the video of that fight in front of 100 sets of 3 judges, Newton wins it 66+ times.

                                  He should be scared.

Heel hooks are the second most dangerous submission (after neck cranks). It only takes about 2 inches past the "breaking point" to destroy the meniscus (and possibly the ACL) of the knee and essentially give a PERMANENT injury.

nunya, is this how you generally analyze a decision to determine if you got screwed or caught a break? rather than simply asking whether it was a fair decision?

honestly never looked at it this way, but i have to say it got me thinking.

Yeah, definitely. And I try to think this way when capping fights as well.

Now that referee information is more readily available prior to fights too, this should probably be included as well, but haven't done the work to include it, myself.

                                              I concur.

The fact that Yves Lavigne was the ref for the Silva fight influenced my play BIG TIME. I knew this would favor Silva because as soon as any sort of flurry would come in -- he would jump in. On the other side, you have Josh Rosenthal. If 2 guys are fighting that are tough -- the odds of the fight going the distance are much higher with him as ref.

I'm not arguing that he should've won the fight if fights were scored fairly, but if you reran the video of that fight in front of 100 sets of 3 judges, Newton wins it 66+ times.

I did some of it, the low end ones. The other ones weren't too appealing in our group cause of the 1-year thing so we didn't end up doing it. Ended up coming up around like $300 after paying off the costs. So not too bad and it got us two awesome meals so not bad for a weekend.

Heel hooks are the second most dangerous submission (after neck cranks). It only takes about 2 inches past the "breaking point" to destroy the meniscus (and possibly the ACL) of the knee and essentially give a PERMANENT injury.

I knew this would favor Silva because as soon as any sort of flurry would come in -- he would jump in. On the other side, you have Josh Rosenthal. If 2 guys are fighting that are tough -- the odds of the fight going the distance are much higher with him as ref.
