I don't think anybody considered him a top contender for the belt. Beating Big Nog, he would have still been a few fights away.

Mitrione, Struve, Travis Browne, or Kongo would likely had been next. Then Carwin or Nelson... Then Frank Mir or Brock... Of course Mir/Brock the most likely #1 at the moment, so there's also JDS/Cain he'd have to get past.

That's not even factoring in Overeem possibly signing with the UFC... The Grand Prix winner...

Yeah but Schaub thought he was a top contender, that's what he's talking about...not what we thought he was

I doubt there are many fighters, if any, that don't think they are top contenders.

Misread it for some reason. Still, not good gambling logic.

Well if he means that Schaub was overlooking Nog then maybe its a valid point. I think it was more that Schaub was over confident in his KO power and was shocked when Nog took a few shots. That and Schaub has terrible defence, hands down and backing up against the cage

schaub should not have been talking about being in hunt for title. Its disrespectful to nog. and remember schaub got knocked out by roy nelson. Everyone thinks they are a top contender but to go on the record and put it out there to the public is a different story

Disrespectful to Nog? Is he applying for sainthood or something. It's just hype. It's loud and boisterous but doesn't signify anything. Hype is what takes place when you're don't have a firm grasp on what you're talking about in the first place. And it can just as easily come out of a fighter, fanboy, or the hacks who like to pass themselves off as experts aka MMA journalists.

Oh and getting KO'd by Roy Nelson is such a rare feat isn't it? Go look at how many fights he's won by TKO or KO. Hype is what allows someone to make a qualitative statement like that or, "Schaub is just a good a striker as Mir" and try to pass it off as fact. It's clearly not the case but when you don't know how to actually gauge a fighters skill level or the technique he possess it happens.

I should have known better than to put as many units on Schaub in parlays as I did. I wasn't really as big on Schaub at first, but my plays were more of a fade to Big Nog since everyone has been so down on him lately and he looked slow and out of it. The layoff just really put me over the top and I included him in 4 parlays. I had a little dent in my night, but Anderson, Palhares, and Shogun made up for it...

I thought it was a great event overall and loved the craziness of the Palhares/Miller fight.

me as well. i got way to cocky on shaub and only a minor bet on nogueira inside the distance which was the only way i saw him winning. Lessioned learned. KOs by underdogs very often comes in the 1 round. And never get so confident that you dont hedge. This two past event got me down round 30 units. 30 units less than necessary. Youre not suppose to loose on mma if you keep it simple, i really believe that.
