    Unmotivated Forrest vs Motivated Shogun.
If any of you have watched the Ariel Helwani interview with Forrest a few days ago at the UFC workout session on Copacabana beach. This is a brief summary of what he said:

"My back was scratched" Basically Dana gave Forrest extra incentive to take the fight.
"How much am I gonna enjoy being @#$% home!"
"I don't enjoy fighting, I do it because it makes me rich"

He also mentioned in the Countdown show that he has a kid on the way a few days after the fight and that Dana White is giving Forrest the UFC private jet to go straight home after the fight. His mind is definitely elsewhere.

In a different interview, I read that Forrest was not enjoying training because he has "plateaued" as a fighter and has not gotten any better. He plans to changed camps after this fight.

We all know the Shogun angle of how he has never lost back to back fights and comes in very motivated after a bad performance. Shogun's a very proud man and will come out to look to take it to Forrest.

IMO Forrest at +200 or higher is STILL not a good bet. There's no value in a bet if he's not going to win. A live dog that won't win.

Shogun is the best bet of the event IMO

GL with your wagers folks and enjoy the fights

Forrest is being his honest self. He does not seem all that interested with Shogun and has other things on his mind. If Shogun comes out quick he might catch him napping before the true fight instincts kick in.

Shogun looked soft at the weigh in again...and Forrest looked like a MAN like always. If he was unmotivated in training, then it certainly didn't show in his physique.

When he said that he fights because it makes him "rich", he meant that it betters him as a person. He wants to challenge himself and push himself to be a better person.

When he said that his back was scratched, he was referring to Dana letting him fight in California for a large majority of his career...not that he was given any extra incentive.

Also, of course he wants to be home!! Anyone would rather fight near their home town. Just my perspective....also, I wouldn't read too much into anything that Forrest says. He is not your typical person.

Dude I'm 99% sure he didn't mean that it "betters him as a person"!

And I thought Shogun looked fine, he was almost on weight the day before the weigh-ins

              I love Forrest. "I don't like people."

The OP is spot on. Forrest didn't want this fight. Shogun looked lean at the weigh in. Shogun is my biggest bet on the card.

the first fight was in cali...i remember that griffin was a considerable dog with nothing to lose....i remember the crowd chanting his name and how he seemed to feed off it......and how rua seemed to get discouraged as the fight progressed..

many folks thought griffin would get rolled and he fought like a man with nothing to lose.....he wasn`t expected to win.....rua fought like many other pride fighters fought in their first ufc appearance...

i remember how focused rua was in the rematch with machida...he made some adjustments and learned from the first fight..will he do the same here?...i somehow doubt that he`ll allow himself to get dragged into another battle of attrition...i think he keeps it standing ...his kicks are probably better than griffin`s...and imo,he`s just a better striker....

that first fight may have been his first fight in a cage(not sure)...the first in the ufc(the first without the stomps and soccer kicks that helped make him famous) ...the first fight in america since 2003.....that fight was in denver and oddly enough,it was rua`s last loss in mma(the coleman fluke notwithstanding)and also oddly enough,he lost that fight via rear naked choke also...vs renato sobral....also in the 3rd round...

lot`s of similarities... one thing that isn`t similar though...the circumstances leading up to this one....this time i think the circumstances are shifted in rua`s favor....

At the end of the day Forrest still does not want to get beat up. He's still going to do his best to win. Shogun looked great at weigh-ins but after three knee surgeries its unlikely we'll ever see the pride Shogun again. Forrest himself is a better fighter than he was in his first fight vs shogun, I wouldn't count him out. I still favor shogun but at the same time I don't think Forrest is a terrible bet.

Best bet on the card in my opinion is Luiz Cane and the biggest lock is Paulo Thiago.

I don't think it mattered if Forrest was motivated or not tonight.
