UFC 100 - The Consensus

Welcome to The Consensus. I think this will be very profitable. I hope all the MMA regulars will participate, even people watching from the sidelines can feel free to chime in. All i ask is that you have some kind of MMA knowledge and your not just guessing. Basically , each person will go thru the card and pick a winner for each fight and rate their own pick on how sure they are of the play by a 5 Star rating system. The system is as such:

1 Star - Very close fight, each fighter has a very good chance of winning, but your leaning to this fighter for whatever reason.

2 Stars - Close Fight. This guy should win, but there are several obsticles that he will face before his hand is raised.

3 Stars - This guy outmatches his opponent quite nicely. Hes got alot going for him, a solid stylistic matchup in his favor and its goin to alot of hardwork for his opponent to win, this guy wins this fight 70% of the time.

4 Stars- This is a warm up fight. This fighter has in opponents number in every aspect of fighting, and should win this easily. This guy wins a decision hands down, lets just hope he doesnt get caught in a submission or lucky K.O. this guy wins 90% of the time.

5 Stars- Open up your checkbook. Why did they make this fight ??? His oponnent shouldnt even be in the ring with him. This guy wins the fight 99% of the time.

Those are just descriptions of the top of my head, im a lil tired tonight. If anybody would like to put more thought into it and create better guidlines, please do. But i think we all get the jist of the 5 Star ratting scheme.

When you post your picks, you can include a write up or not. if you do a write up in a dif thread, just the picks and stars will be cool. Then on fight day we will tally them up and see if we have vaule in putting our heads together. You can also change your picks up until fightday and i would also like to get a :: PLAY OF THE NIGHT:: if you have no 5 star pick on a card and a :: UPSET OF THE NIGHT:: which is just your fav underdog pick, if you have one.

I got to run 4 miles in a few hours, but i will post my picks when i wake up .... Let the games begin !

GSP 4 stars - GSP too smart for alves
fitch 4 stars - Fitch to dominating for paulo
hendo 4 stars - bisping got nothing on him, except hand speed maybe
akiyama 2 stars - wouldn't count belcher out
coleman 2 stars, almost 3 except his cardio is still up in the air
Danzig 1 star - switching it up, i think/hope danzig can avoid 3 loses ina row
jones 2 stars - 3 stars if he keeps the fight standing
stun gun 2 stars - grant thinks he is going to push the pace against a 4th degree black belt in judo, gl
CB 3 stars - previous training and expierence be to much for lawlor
2 stars gugerty

The Bonnar/Coleman fight is going to be very interesting. Both of them desperately need a win.

Mir - 2 stars .... I like his speed and LOVE his submissions. Brock pounded Hearing and didnt finish him

St. Pierre - 4 Stars - St. Pierre is the best athlete in this sport, his cardio is insane He makes the best look bad

Fitch - 3 Stars - I wont play him, he should win .. but how can you bet against the great unknown ?

Bisping - 2 stars He will take advantage of Hendos Cardio by getting him to punch out in 1st

Akiyama - 3 Stars - Allen is a spoiler, but i think he is outmatched

Coleman - 1 star -His take downs are still great, if he improved Cardio , this could be a boring upset.

Danzig - 2 Stars - Mac has lost, but he has been competitive, Miller got PWN'd by Grey

Dalloway - 4 Stars - Both wrestlers, but Bader will help CB prepare to beat the Lawlor, hes done it before. Also, Tom will not Tap Out CB, i just think everything is in CB's favore :: PLAY OF THE NIGHT::

Grice - 1 star - Stright toss up i think. No major value

I think this fight is close to 50/50. Odds wise you would have to go with Mir getting +190. I just feel like Lesnar has had enough time to learn basic submission defense. Therefor he can be super aggressive and pound Mir's face into mush.

Georges St Pierre 3*
The destruction of Fitch and Penn makes me think that he can not be beat. I think GSP will be too fast and take a 5 round decision.

Dan Henderson 3*
Bisping couldn't stop Hamill or Evans from taking him down, and he thinks he'll stop an Olympic wrestler... get real. If Hendo gets in trouble on the feet, then it goes to the ground. Decision Dan in 3.

Jon Fitch 3*
The gigantic odds on this make it unplayable. Especially on an unknown that just KO'd Koscheck.

Alan Belcher 2*
Akiyama, a first timer in the UFC and not fighting in his usual gi. Upset written all over it.

Mark Coleman 2*
Odds are way out of whack for this fight. Bonnar will not be able to stop any takedowns. Coleman training at Extreme Couture. **Upset of the Night**

Mac Danzig 1*
Jim Miller got out classed by his first step up in competition in Maynard. Odds are a little off because Miller beat a few scrubs before Maynard while Danzig lost to decent fighters.

Jake O'Brien 1*
Why is Jon Jones a -400 favorite?

CB Dollaway 3*
Calculated matches against scrubs for Dollaway in order to keep him winning and build popularity. Why?

Matt Grice 2*
Edge in stand up and has good sub defense.

I think you should take a hard look at Frank Mir. I hate to use the term value, but at +170-190 depending on where you shop online all the value is on Mir. I was lucky enough to find him at +210 at Sun Coast here in Las Vegas this afternoon. Despite the weight disadvantage, Mir has the upper hand in every other facet of the fight. Mir is a black belt in bbj giving him in my opinion the advantage on the ground. Good striking that was surprisingly improved as seen in his last fight against Nogeuira again advantage Mir. Don't forget Mir beat him the first time although taking a beating to do so. I believe Frank did not take Lesnar seriously the first time and was not as prepared as he should have been. Mir's conditioning has always been the issue. He is a gifted athlete which allowed him to get by on his athletic prowess before his leg injury. Post leg injury he has been forced to work on his cardio and from what I've heard and seen he looks to be in the best shape of his life. This line is so inflated due to Lesnar's WWE following. Mir should be favored in my opinion.
