In a championship fight, both fighters are supposed to be exactly at the target weight or under. This video is pretty shady as someone from the commission informs Nick Diaz that it is ok to be almost a pound over weight right before the weigh ins and he even says 170.9. Remember when Nate Diaz fought Ben Henderson, Nate had to lose half a pound from 155.6 to hit the exact 155 mark for the fight to be legit. Not that I think this pound would have made a difference in the GSP/Diaz fight, but changing the rules is bullshit. Would be interesting if Nick Diaz was the one .9 pounds over.

The thread title should also probably say
So the rules were changed because GSP may not make weight against Diaz.

      Here's an article

"Here, they're going to allow you and Georges to have an extra hour," Mersch says. "Just in case somebody doesn't make it. But the good news is, they don't count the decimal. If you're 170.2 it's 170. If it's 170.9. it's 170."
MMA fighters are given a one-pound allowance in non-title affairs but both competitors must hit the required weight exactly (or below it) in title contests.

Could it be that the Quebec athletic commission has different rules?

might be a metric system conversion issue as well.

I don't think so. In the video(now deleted) they did not mention any weight in kilograms, just Pounds. Apparently this has never been brought up before ever in a title fight in Canada until 1 hour before the weigh ins for UFC 158. Supposedly GSP was sick and their may have been some issues with him cutting the rest of the weight while being ill.

If they signed a contract to fight at 77.5kg then the maximum weight would be 170.9lbs. Seems kind of irrelevant anyways since GSP weighed in at 170.

ufc looks super shady as usual taking that video down. They are gangsters. That's abusing the DMCA and against the law. I saw the video. No UFC footage was used. I hope the UFC goes bankrupt just like Station Casinos.

So does that mean that other fighters in non title fights would be allowed to fight at 1.9 pounds over then? It's hard to say if he weighed in at 170 or not, according to what the guy in the video said, any weight between 170.1 and 170.9 would be rounded down to 170.

Honestly it is old news by now. If you watch the UFC and for one second think it's a sport you are a mark. It's mainly entertainment for 15 year old retards to make the fertittas rich. At the expense of the fighters who are being ripped off millions of dollars while they suffer brain damage (which is monetarily encouraged).

The guy in the video was like "Hey I got good news, you can weigh up to 170.9 and everything is ok because it will be taken down to 170"

Now why wouldn't this new information be given in the morning or even the day before? Not right before the weigh ins. The guy was basically saying GSP had a weight issue, but it is Ok if Nick does too.

                          Complete Bullshit.

Just like the million other bullshit things Dana spews nonstop. Like Mark Hunt turning down the fight against JDS. Or Miesha Tate and Sara MCmann turning down the fight against rousey. You are morally bankrupt if you support these scumbags.
