    Crypto.com debit card purchases

Has anyone else noticed that crypto.com debit/credit card purchases are processed using a US processor now located in Miami? This means no more foreign transaction fees. I noticed this on my statement starting from last week. This will make them the cheapest method to buy crypto with debit or credit card.

Previously your bank will always charge crypto.com purchases with foreign transaction fees. Not any more.

I've always used ACH. My bank uses Bill Pay. I go to my bank account, click on "pay bills", select "visit Bill Pay site" and then click on Transfers where I have my Cryto.com account already set up. Punch in the amount that I want to send to Crypto.com. Takes about 4 days to arrive to my Crypto.com fiat wallet. From there, I can either buy crypto or load my Crypto.com card. Never any extra fees.

probably, mine just changed to US processor last month. I hope it stays like this. Processor being in the US also allows them to accept more cards.

Anyone here using the Crypto.com debit card do you know if they issue a 1099 at the end of the year if i am just sending usdc to them and cashing out with my debit card only? I remember the Bitpay prepaid debit never issued a 1099 at the end of the year. Too bad they shut down there Prepaid card service.

I don't think they send 1099's if you are just depositing to load your card. I'm not 100% on that, though. Not sure if there is a limit (like 20K) where they are required to start reporting it....

I get 1099's from them but it is for my staking/interest in their Earn program - not when I load my card from crypto...

This is good to know since I just started using the Crypto.com card. I wasn't sure of the rules. I have a Wirex card but wasn't able to withdraw from an ATM and cs didn't help much.

I didn't want to start a new thread for this question.... but... has anyone seen the new rules when linking a bank account to your Gemini account? It seems the only way to link a bank account now is "Automatic wire" which is ridiculous to me hence all the fees your bank will charge for a wire. In the terms... Gemini claims this is the "proper way" how to authenticate the correct "user" on the account. In part 2 of this... Gemini claims banks "forbid" the use of small deposits debits and credits to authenticate your account. This is such crap. Again, this applies to NEW bank accounts added... not old ones. So if you close a bank account or change account numbers... it's a pain in the a## with Gemini.

So my question is... where can I purchase BTC with a fair price... without doing a wire to authenticate a bank account. I just want to do normal ACH's... not wires. I don't want to use Coinbase. Thanks in advance.

I was able to add a new bank account using the ACH method last week at Gemini. Maybe you could only have one bank at a time? Try removing that old bank and add the new one. It will need to take you through the Plaid login process to add the bank via ACH.

I thought the same thing you were thinking too. I tried the Plaid process... and Gemini claims I still had to verify the account with 1 wire withdrawing from that checking account. Even after Plaid confirmed everything was ok. It's mind boggling. So now that I know it's only effecting my account... and not happening to anyone else. I might have to call up Gemini support and ask them what the hell is going on?

    Thanks again for your response!

Yes, there's limits at the ATMs depending on which card you have. Go here and scroll down a little.

    https://crypto.com/us/cards

Once you pass the "free" limit, they start charging 2%. For a $1000, that's $20. I try to load the card with crypto-->cash rather than using ATMs....

Use Walmart if you need to take out large amounts of cash from the crypto.com card. They charge only three dollars for every 1000. Otherwise you get charged 2% if you do through an ATM machine. If you want 0% fee, buy a cheap item at Walmart in the produce section like one lime for $.10 then do the $100 cash back. Do this four times and you can get $400 cash with no fee.

Technically you could do this 10 times but the employees might look at you weird so I just opt to pay the three dollars at the service counter for $1000. Also you might run the risk of draining that self check out machine of all its 20s and end up getting $500 in all five dollar bills which isn’t fun.

One nuance about the Crypto.com debit card is you can’t use it to buy crypto, only external purchases. My advice is to only top up the card when you absolutely need the cash. Once you top it up, you can’t go back and buy crypto with the card. You will have to use one of your external cards to purchase crypto.

Just wanted to repost this. So I did a little research and it seems like a lot of different accounts are having this issue. Gemini is basically forcing you to do a Wire to them from your bank.. not ACH. Can anyone give me some other companies like Gemini in which they only use ACH to verify a bank? Even after Plaid verified everything with Gemini. Gemini still requires 1 wire from my bank to Gemini. I'm not paying $20-$30 in fees for this. This is ridiculous.

Anyone recommend something like Gemini.... with low fees. I don't want to use Coinbase. Thanks

    Comparing Crypto.com to Gemini.com

Crypto.com seems to jack up the BTC price by about $450.00 to the going rate. I don't know if my math is that good... but if you were purchasing about $1,000 worth.... you'd lose an extra $18.00

I don't really know if that's worth it or not???

Every time I'm ready to make a purchase.... it jacks up BTC more and more. lol This is like Coinbase's Algorithm sh##. It's now marked up $580.00 extra lol WTF is going on? You guys need to keep an eye on this stuff. Wow.

Crypto.com has the cheapest rates if you are using a debit card to buy. They charge 3% which is the cheapest in the industry. Most places charge you 10% or more for debit card purchases. If you’re buying a large amount using an ACH method then Gemini or Kraken has cheaper rates.

The advantage of Crypto.com is it will give you a debit card that you can instantly cash out if you need the cash. Gemini and Kraken currently does not have this. They said that it was coming but I haven’t seen anything for the past years.

I appreciate your input. I'm definitely going to consider the Crypto card in the future. I'm just saying if you wanted to load an account for football for around 5k... I think Gemini gives you the better overall rate. I just clicked the buy price for Gemini and Crypto.com price... again it's marked up around $450.00 on the buy. I believe Crypto.com still charges you an additional +0.5% on an ACH buy. Where as Gemini gives you the fair going rate on the buy and they charge 1.5%.

Again, if you're just depositing $500.00 quickly and you want some action on a game... crypto.com is probably the way to go... for something fast. But, if you're totally funding a lot more... you could possibly be losing well over $100.00 in additional fees going the Crypto.com route ACH.

Coinbase was highway robbery 3-4 years ago. I stopped using them. They weren't even close to the Gemini rate. I know there are many to choose from now... but Gemini was always a good OUT.

^^^Yep, crypto.com is good if you need instant buy using a debit card. Gemini has instant buy also but they put a 72 hour hold before you can send the crypto out which is lame. Crypto.com you can send out immediately. For 1k or less, use Crypto.com. Anything over that then Gemini is cheaper.

Since Bitpay is no longer an option to withdraw cash from ATMs, are people using Crypto.com cards? Or is there a better option?
